BEMIDJI, Minn. -- The weekly radio show, “Sports in the Round”, which is held on Wednesday evenings from 6-8 p.m. at The Ground Round, will this week feature the Bemidji State University men’s hockey and football teams. BSU men’s hockey head coach Tom Serratore will be on the program to discuss the fast start by the Beavers and their upcoming series at the University of Alabama-Huntsville, which kicks off the College Hockey America season. Jeff Tesch, head football coach at Bemidji State, will highlight the 2009 season and Saturday’s football game at the University of Mary.

The Beavers went 1-0-1 at the University of Northern Michigan, Oct. 23-24, improving their record to 3-0-1 to open the season, the program’s best start at the NCAA Division I level since it was 4-0-0 to begin the 2005-06 campaign. BSU begins its final season in the CHA this weekend against the Chargers.

The football squad holds a 6-3 record in 2009 and its 3-2 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference North record stands tied for third with the Marauders. The Beavers are coming off a tough home loss to No. 7 Minnesota Duluth last week, 35-34.

Other guests include UAH head men’s hockey coach Danton Cole and Myron Schulz, the head football coach at the University of Mary.

Also appearing on the show are Bemidji State’s Beaver Pride Athletes of the Week. This week, the male athlete of the week is junior quarterback Derek Edholm (Anoka, Minn.) from the men’s hockey team. The female athlete is women’s soccer junior forward/midfielder Ashlee Ellefsen (Hugo, Minn.).

As always, the hosts for the “Sports in the Round” are Brian Schultz, Kelly Schultz and Brian Bissonette. The two-hour program can be heard on WMIS 92.1 The River or online at http://wmisfm.com.
