| UM-Duluth washout locks up No. 1 seed
in NSIC Tournament for BSU
April 29, 2002
BEMIDJI, Minn. - Bemidji State head baseball coach
Jim Grimm today announced the cancellation of BSU’s
scheduled baseball series at Minnesota-Duluth and St. Cloud
State.
The UM-Duluth series, originally scheduled for April 27-28,
was backed up a day to April 28-29 due to heavy snowfall in
Duluth late last week. The April 28 games were cancelled due
to snow on the fields, and the games scheduled for today were
cancelled this morning as snow remains on the field.
The cancellation of the UM-Duluth series locks down the No.
1 seed in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Tournament
for Bemidji State. BSU finishes the 2002 season at 13-3 in
Conference play (.813), and based on winning percentage no
NSIC team will have an opportunity to catch the Beavers. The
four-team NSIC Tournament will begin May 9 at BSU Baseball
Field.
BSU’s scheduled double-header at St. Cloud State today
has also been cancelled by mutual agreement between the programs.
BSU’s remaining 2002 schedule includes a double-header
against North Dakota at BSU Baseball Field on Wednesday, May
1, a home double-header with the University of Winnipeg on
Thursday, May 2 and a return twinbill at Winnipeg on May 3.
BSU eighth in Central Regional Rankings
Bemidji State made its debut in eighth place in the NCAA
Division II Central Regional baseball rankings last week.
