May 14, 2002 - Nate Olson named NSIC Player of the Year; Jim Grimm named Coach of the Year
Bemidji State pitcher and second baseman Nate Olson was named 2002 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Player of the Year, and head coach Jim Grimm named the league’s Coach of the Year, to headline a group of eight BSU players selected to this year’s All-NSIC Team.

May 10, 2002 - Southwest State eliminates BSU from NSIC Tournament
The Southwest State Mustangs recovered quickly from a 22-4 loss at the hands of Winona State in Game 1 of the NSIC Tournament, eliminating No. 1 seed and tournament host Bemidji State with a 12-8 victory tonight at BSU Baseball Field.

May 10, 2002 - Wayne State upsets top-seeded BSU in first round of NSIC Tournament
The Bemidji State Beavers, who had not played a game that counted in the standings since April 23, failed to protect their home field in the first round of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Tournament, falling to fourth-seeded Wayne State, 16-2. The game was called in the seventh inning due to the NCAA’s 10-run mercy rule.

Bemidji State used a strong effort by its pitching staff to complete a two-game exhibition double-header sweep of the Great Plains (Manitoba) Baseball Academy this afternoon at BSU Baseball Field, 10-2 and 16-0.

April 23, 2002 - Bemidji State splits non-conference twinbill with St. Cloud State

Today’s double-header between the Bemidji State Beavers and St. Cloud State Huskies was either a dream game for a hitting coach or a pitching coach’s worst nightmare - depending on which dugout you happened to occupy. The Beavers and Huskies combined to score 54 runs on 61 base hits in a non-conference twinbill at BSU Baseball Field, with the Beavers capturing a 13-11 decision in Game 1 and then getting blasted 25-5 in the nightcap.

April 21, 2002 - Bemidji State completes four-game sweep of UM-Morris

It was more difficult than they probably expected coming into today’s double-header, but the Bemidji State Beavers completed a four-game sweep of the Minnesota, Morris Cougars with 5-0 and 4-3 wins today at the BSU Baseball Field. BSU trailed 1-0, 2-1 and 3-2 in Game 2 and needed two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to pull out the win and complete the sweep.

April 20, 2002 - Bemidji State dominates UM-Morris in two-game sweep

The Bemidji State Beavers continued their run at a Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference championship today with a dominating double-header sweep of the Minnesota, Morris Cougars, 13-1 and 5-0, at the BSU Baseball Field. Bemidji State’s starting pitching dominated, as Nate Heim and Alan Ryan threw back-to-back complete games for the Beavers and allowed just one earned run on eight hits in the double-header.

April 17, 2002 - BSU sweeps UM-Crookston, 5-4 and 15-8
The Bemidji State Beavers snapped out of a mini-skid which saw them drop three of four games to complete a season sweep of the Minnesota-Crookston Golden Eagles, 5-4 and 15-8 this afternoon in Crookston. The win completes a four-game season sweep of the Golden Eagles for the Beavers after an April 10 BSU double-header sweep in Bemidji.

April 17, 2002 - North Dakota State sweeps BSU in non-conference action

The North Dakota State Bison swept a two-game non-conference double-header with the Bemidji State Beavers yesterday by scores of 11-9 and 7-2 at Newman Outdoor Field. BSU, which has lost three of its last four starts after winning six in a row, blew a 6-0 second-inning lead in Game 1 and scored just two runs in Game 2.

April 14, 2002 - Bemidji State takes two of three games from Wayne State

April 13, 2002 - Bemidji State downs Wayne State, 12-7; Game 2 suspended

Bemidji State picked up its first win over the Wayne State Wildcats since April 18, 1999 and snapped Wayne State’s seven-game NSIC winning streak with a 12-7 win today at the BSU Baseball Field.

April 11, 2002 - BSU to host Wayne State (Neb.) in key NSIC series
Bemidji State looks to build upon its longest winning streak in two years when it plays host to the Wayne State Warriors in a key Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference series this weekend at the BSU Baseball Field in Bemidji. BSU is third in the NSIC at 4-2 in conference play while Wayne State has won seven consecutive games against circuit foes and is tied atop the NSIC standings with Winona State at 7-1.

April 9, 2002 - BSU to host UM-Crookston in NSIC action on April 10
Bemidji State baseball will look to build on the momentum of its double-header sweep of Southwest State on April 7 when it plays host to NSIC rival Minnesota-Crookston on April 10. The Crookston series will be BSU's 2002 home opener. Senior outfielder Ben Woodford carries an eight-game hitting streak into tomorrow's games.

April 8, 2002 - BSU splits four-game series with Southwest State

Bemidji State played its first baseball games in nearly three weeks over the weekend, splitting a four-game Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference series with the Southwest State Mustangs at Red Rock Central High School. Southwest State swept both games of the April 6 double-header by scores of 8-3 and 9-1, while BSU rallied to sweep the April 7 twinbill, 9-4 and 7-1 in 10 innings.

Bemidji State’s scheduled four-game baseball series against the Concordia-St. Paul Golden Bears, scheduled for March 28-29 in St. Paul, has been called off due to poor field conditions.

March 20, 2002 - Baseball goes 5-3 at Gene Cusic Classic

The Bemidji State baseball team posted a 5-3 record at the Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic in Ft. Myers, Fla. over spring break. The Beavers started 2-0, then dropped a one-run decision to regional rival North Dakota State and exploded for a 20-12 win over Robert Morris midway through the week. BSU then closed 2-2 in its final two days at the Classic. Six of BSU's eight games for the week were decided by three runs or less.

March 8, 2002 - BSU to open 2002 season at Gene Cusic Classic
Bemidji State kicks off its 2002 baseball season at the Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic, a month-long baseball extravaganza played in Fort Myers, Fla. BSU is scheduled to play eight games in the Classic, including a matchup with regional rival North Dakota State, starting March 11.
