Former Bemidji State University baseball players Shaun Ross and Brian Beuning are headlining a sizable group of former Beavers who are continuing successful baseball careers beyond their collegiate playing days.

May 12, 2004 - Czech, Ross named First-Team All-NSIC
Bemidji State senior infielder Jon Czech and senior utility player Shaun Ross have been named to the First-Team All-Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference baseball team, as announced by league officials. The duo headlines a group of four BSU players to earn All-NSIC recognition in 2004; pitchers Tyler Norland and Scott Pugliese were named Honorable Mention All-NSIC.

May 2, 2004 - BSU wraps 2004 season with split at Northern State
Bemidji State wrapped up its 2004 season, splitting a Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference baseball double-header at Northern State this afternoon. The Beavers jumped out to a four-run lead after three innings in Game 1 before cruising to an 8-4 victory, but the Wolves used a Wes Fisback grand slam to take the lead for good in an eventual 7-5 win to earn the split.

May 1, 2004 - Beavers split double-header with Northern State
Bemidji State split a Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference baseball double-header with the Northern State Wolves this afternoon, using strong starting pitching to capture a 6-2 win in the opener and then seeing a seventh-inning rally fall one run short in a 9-8 heartbreaker in the nightcap.

April 28, 2004 - BSU swept in NSIC twinbill at Minn.-Duluth
Bemidji State wrapped up its four-game Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference baseball series with Minn.-Duluth this afternoon, with the Bulldogs completing a four-game season sweep of BSU with wins by 14-4 and 3-0 counts. The teams played a split home-and-home series this year, with Duluth capturing 7-5 and 4-2 wins in Bemidji on April 21.

April 25, 2004 - BSU splits twinbill with Wayne State, 8-7 and 0-4
Bemidji State’s bats found a solution to Wayne State pitching in Game 1 of a Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference double-header, pounding out 10 hits and getting a walk-off hit in the bottom of the seventh to take an 8-7 win. But the Wildcats were back in form for Game 2, as Nathan Gettler hurled a one-hit shutout and beat the Beavers, 4-0, to earn a split in the double-header.

April 24, 2004 - BSU drops double-header to Wayne State, 5-3 & 25-1
Bemidji State’s baseball team spent a frustrating afternoon trying to solve the Wayne State (Neb.) pitching staff, and never quite found an answer as the Wildcats swept a two-game Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference double-header by scores of 5-3 and 25-1. BSU generated just six hits on the afternoon, and were held to a single hit in the Game 2 loss.

April 21, 2004 - BSU drops pair of two-run games to Minn.-Duluth

Bemidji State dropped a pair of two-run decisions to the Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference baseball action this afternoon, losing 7-5 in Game 1 and dropping a 4-2 nine-inning decision in Game 2.

Jon Czech tied Jamie Sinning’s 1990 Bemidji State single-season record with his 10th home run of the season in the bottom of the seventh in Game 1.

April 19, 2004 - BSU completes season sweep of Minn.-Crookston
Bemidji State ran its winning streak to a season-high four games and picked up its fifth win in its last seven starts, completing a four-game series sweep of the Minn.-Crookston Golden Eagles this afternoon. BSU raced out to a 16-5 lead in Game 1 behind a season-high 20 hit assault, then held on for a 16-12 win in Game 1, then rallied from two runs down to take an 8-3 lead in Game 2 and hold on for an 8-5 win to complete the sweep.

April 18, 2004 - Double-header with Crookston rained out
Due to rain in the Bemidji area overnight and forecast to continue throughout the day, BSU's scheduled baseball doubleheader with the Minn.-Crookston Golden Eagles today has been cancelled.

April 17, 2004 - Czech, Norland ground Golden Eagles on Alumni Day
Bemidji State baseball (9-25, 6-8 NSIC) used performances from seniors Jon Czech and Tyler Norland to sweep Saturday’s doubleheader against cellar-dwelling Minnesota-Crookston (3-25, 1-13 NSIC) by scores of 12-6 and 2-0. Czech hit home runs in both games, thrusting BSU’s single-season home run record into serious jeopardy, while Norland tossed a seven-hit shutout in Game 2 to silence the Golden Eagles’ bats.

April 12, 2004 - BSU to tackle St. Cloud State and Minn.-Crookston
Bemidji State (6-24 / 4-8 NSIC) continues a scheduled 20-game homestand April 14 when it wraps up a four-game non-conference series against the St. Cloud State Huskies. BSU played a double-header at St. Cloud State, April 3, and the Huskies make the return trip to Bemidji on Wednesday.

April 9, 2004 - BSU drops pair of one-run games to Winona State
Falling snow and temperatures in the low 30s meant baseball in Northern Minnesota, as Bemidji State dropped a pair of one-run games to the Winona State Warriors today in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference. BSU scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh in each game of the twinbill, but left the tying run stranded at third base in both games. The Warriors led 7-0 and eventually held on for a 12-11 win in a thrilling Game 1, then edged BSU 6-5 in the nightcap.

April 8, 2004 - Bemidji State sweeps Winona State, 3-2 and 8-5
Bemidji State baseball continued its mid-season surge after a slow start, posting a surprising sweep of the Winona State Warriors this afternoon in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference action. The Beavers broke a 2-2 tie with a run in the bottom of the sixth to capture a 3-2 win in Game 1 of a double-header, and plated five unearned runs in the bottom of the fifth to propel themselves to an 8-5 win in Game 2.

April 6, 2004 - BSU trades 8-5 decisions at North Dakota
Bemidji State baseball picked up its fourth victory in six starts, using a five-run first inning to propel itself to an 8-5 victory over the North Dakota Fighting Sioux in Game 1 of a non-conference double-header. The Sioux returned the favor, picking up an 8-5 win in the nightcap.

April 4, 2004 - Beavers gain series split at Concordia-St. Paul
Bemidji State baseball dropped its sixth one-run decision of the season, losing Game 1 of a Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference series, 3-2, to the Concordia-St. Paul Golden Bears. But the Beavers overcame a seven-run fourth inning by the Bears in Game 2, and squashed a three-run bottom-of-the-seventh rally to win a 14-13 thriller in the nightcap.

April 3, 2004 - BSU splits twinbill at Concordia-St. Paul
Bemidji State baseball split a Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference double-header with the Concordia-St. Paul Golden Bears this afternoon. The Beavers jumped out to a 6-0 lead in Game 1, then held on for a 6-2 win, and Concordia scored eight runs in the fourth inning to blow Game 2 open and send BSU to an 11-4 defeat.

April 1, 2004 - Beaver nine get first win at St. Cloud State
The Bemidji State baseball team picked up its first victory of the 2004 season and snapped a school record-tying 20-game losing streak dating back to the end of the 2003 season, overpowering the St. Cloud State Huskies 7-4 in Game 2 of a March 31 twinbill. Bemidji State dropped the opener, 4-1.

March 30, 2004 - BSU to tackle St. Cloud State Wednesday
Bemidji State (0-18 / 0-4 NSIC) will look for its first diamond victory of the 2004 season tomorrow when it travels to St. Cloud State (3-13 / 1-3 NCC) for a non-conference double-header. BSU is off to the worst start in school history, but faces a Husky program against which it has had a degree of recent success.

March 29, 2004 - BSU goes 0-4 to open NSIC play at Southwest
Bemidji State’s baseball team opened Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference play in a weather-delayed four-game series against the Southwest Minnesota State Mustangs Sunday and Monday in Marshall. Southwest State swept the four-game series by scores of 23-2, 5-4, 3-0 and 4-2 in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference opener for both squads.

March 22, 2004 - BSU drops four-game series to South Dakota
Bemidji State’s baseball team saw its losing streak to open the 2004 season reach 14 games over the weekend, as the Beavers dropped four games to South Dakota at the LaVista Sports Complex in Omaha. Three of BSU’s four losses to the Coyotes came by a single run - 4-3 in the series opener, and 1-0 and 6-5 on Sunday. South Dakota triumphed 12-1 in the Saturday nightcap.

March 17, 2004 - BSU goes 0-10 on Missouri/Oklahoma trip
Bemidji State has opened its 2004 baseball season with an 0-10 record, going 0-7 in Joplin and Warrensburg, Mo. with a single game at Pittsburg (Kan.) State, Mar. 9-13. BSU held a 7-1 lead against No. 2 Central Missouri State on March 12, but dropped an 8-7 decision in its narrowest defeat so far this year. The 0-10 start is the worst at BSU since the 1975 team opened 0-11 and is the fourth-worst start in school history.

The Bemidji State baseball team has been picked to finish sixth in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference in the league’s 2004 pre-season coaches poll, as announced late yesterday by the NSIC office.

Feb. 12, 2004 - 2004 Spring Prospectus
Bemidji State will get its 53rd season of baseball competition underway on March 6, 2004 when the Beavers travel south to tackle Central Oklahoma in a three-game non-conference series. That series opens an eight-day tour of Missouri and Oklahoma which will see BSU play nine games. After Central Oklahoma, BSU will play two games at Missouri Southern, visit Pittsburg (Kan.) State and play three games at Central Missouri State.

Bemidji State head baseball coach Chris Brown today announced the program’s 2004 baseball schedule. The 54-game slate features a lengthy road trip to Missouri and Kansas to kick the season off in early March and a 20-game home schedule which features non-conference double-headers against regional rivals North Dakota and St. Cloud State.
