May 15, 2006 - Matt Pesta named All-NSIC
Bemidji State first baseman Matt Pesta (Long Prairie, Minn.) has been named All-Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference, the league office announced late last week. Pesta headlines a group of three Bemidji State players who earned All-NSIC honors; senior third baseman Tony Klaers (Elk River, Minn.) and junior outfielder Eric Pilgrim (Park Rapids, Minn.) both were named Honorable Mention All-NSIC.

May 11, 2006 - Matt Middendorf named Academic All-District
Bemidji State University senior infielder Matt Middendorf (Sauk Centre, Minn.) has been named to the ESPN the Magazine / College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District V College Division Baseball Team, as announced today by CoSIDA.

May 8, 2006 - BSU splits four-game series at Northern State
Bemidji State saw its 2006 baseball campaign come to an end over the weekend when it split a four-game Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference series with the Northern State Wolves. BSU swept a double-header on Saturday, May 6 by scores of 13-3 and 6-4 and was swept in a Sunday, May 7 twinbill by scores of 3-1 and 8-2.

May 6, 2006 - BSU sweeps Northern State
Bemidji State posted its first NSIC double-header sweep since April 24, 2005, picking up 13-3 and 6-4 victories over the Northern State Wolves in Aberdeen. Tony Klaers (Elk River, Minn.) had two home runs and five RBI in leading the Game 1 romp, and BSU's starting pitchers allowed just five earned runs in the twinbill sweep.

May 3, 2006 - BSU swept at Minn.-Duluth
Minnesota Duluth used a four-run first inning to spark a 6-3 victory over Bemidji State in Game 1 of a non-conference double-header, then scored seven unanswered runs in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings to rally from a 7-1 deficit to stun the Beavers, 8-7, in the nightcap to complete a two-game sweep.

May 2, 2006 - BSU shut out twice at South Dakota State
Three South Dakota State pitchers limited Bemidji State to three hits over 14 innings as the Jackrabbits posted a pair of 6-0 victories over the Beavers in a non-conference double-header this afternoon. Christian Larson pitched a two-hit shutout in the Game 1 victory, while Caleb Thielbar limited BSU to a single hit in six innings of work in Game 2.

April 30, 2006 - BSU/UMC rained out
Bemidji State head baseball coach Tim Bellew announced that today's scheduled Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference double-header against Minnesota Crookston has been cancelled due to wet field conditions and a forecast of additional rain in the Bemidji area this afternoon. At this time, no makeup date is expected.
April 27, 2006 - BSU posts first sweep of UMD in nine years
Bemidji State’s Matt Asche (Cedar Falls, Iowa) capped a two-run Beaver rally with an RBI single with the bases loaded and one out in the bottom of the seventh inning to lift BSU past Minnesota-Duluth, 5-4, in Game 2 of a non-conference double-header this afternoon in Bemidji. The victory, coupled with a 13-7 victory in Game 1, helped complete BSU’s first double-header sweep of the Bulldogs in more than nine years.

April 25, 2006 - Bemidji State downs North Dakota, 10-2
Bemidji State starting pitcher Chad Schwegel (St. Joseph, Minn.) held the North Dakota Fighting Sioux to two runs in a stellar seven-inning outing to lead the Beavers to a 10-2 non-conference victory this afternoon.

April 22, 2006 - Concordia completes four-game sweep of BSU
Bemidji State’s baseball team tied a season high by scoring six or more runs in its second and third consecutive game, but the offense could not keep pace with the Concordia-St. Paul Golden Bears, who completed a four-game sweep of the Beavers with 11-6 and 8-6 victories today in Bemidji.

April 22, 2006 - BSU swept by Concordia-St. Paul
Concordia-St. Paul first baseman Erik Quarberg went 3-for-8 with nine RBI, including an eight-RBI performance in Game 2, to help lift the Golden Bears past Bemidji State in a Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference double-header, 7-2 and 20-6, this afternoon. Quarberg went 0-for-3 with an RBI in Game 1, then erupted to go 3-for-5 with four runs scored and eight RBI in Game 2. Quarberg hit a three-run home run in an eight-run Concordia fifth inning and had a grand slam in a four-run seventh.

April 19, 2006 - Minn. Duluth twinbill postponed

Bemidji State head baseball coach Tim Bellew announced that today's scheduled non-conference double-header against Minnesota Duluth has been postponed due to wet field conditions and a forecast of additional rain in the Bemidji area this afternoon. The games have been rescheduled for Thursday, April 27.

April 18, 2006 - BSU splits double-header with St. Cloud State
St. Cloud State used a six-RBI game from third baseman Nate Swan to pick up a 9-4 victory over Bemidji State in Game 1 of a non-conference double-header, but the Beavers built a 6-1 lead through four innings and then held on to capture Game 2, 6-5, and garner a series split. The teams survived windy conditions, as both games were played with a stiff crosswind blowing across from right field.

April 14, 2006 - Wayne State completes four-game sweep of BSU
Five Bemidji State pitchers combined to allow 25 runs on 28 hits as the Wayne State Wildcats completed a four-game Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference sweep of the Beavers with 13-2 and 12-3 victories in a double-header today.

April 13, 2006 - BSU drops NSIC twinbill to Wayne State
Bemidji State’s baseball team managed seven hits off three Wayne State (Neb.) pitchers and scored one run in a two-game double-header sweep at the hands of the Wildcats this afternoon in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference play. A fourth-inning home run from John Grindeland (Moorhead, Minn.) accounted for BSU’s lone run in a 4-1 Game 1 loss, and BSU was held to three hits and grounded into four double plays in a 6-0 shutout loss in Game 2.

April 11, 2006 - BSU splits with North Dakota in home opener
Bemidji State senior Tony Klaers (Elk River, Minn.) went 5-for-7 at the plate with two home runs, three RBI and four runs scored to help the Beavers to a non-conference double-header split with the North Dakota Fighting Sioux in BSU’s 2006 home opener. The Fighting Sioux plated nine runs in the third inning in Game 1 then held off a furious BSU rally before holding on for an 11-8 victory, and BSU was in control from start to finish in a 9-2 victory to garner the split.

April 4, 2006 - BSU splits NSIC twinbill with SW Minnesota State
The Bemidji State baseball team picked up its first Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference victory of the season, splitting a double-header with the Southwest Minnesota State Mustangs yesterday afternoon. The Beavers got a three-RBI game from first baseman Matt Pesta (Long Prairie, Minn.) to spark a 9-1 victory in Game 1, then saw a late-inning rally fall short in a 4-2 loss in the nightcap.

March 21, 2006 - BSU takes one of three at Holiday Inn Classic
The Bemidji State baseball team won one of its three games at the Holiday Inn Express Classic hosted by Central Missouri State. The Beavers toppled No. 6 Central Missouri State, 9-6, on Friday, and dropped a pair of games in a Saturday double-header - an 8-2 loss to No. 10 Emporia (Kan.) State and a 6-2 loss to Washburn (Kan.).

March 16, 2006 - Wayland Baptist holds off BSU, 15-10
Wayland Baptist used a five-run seventh inning to blow open a one-run game against Bemidji State and cruise to a 15-10 victory on March 15 in the rubber match of a three-game non-conference series. Wayland Baptist hit four home runs in the third and fourth innings of the contest as the Pioneers plated nine unaswered runs to erase a 4-0 deficit.

March 14, 2006 - Wayland Baptist topples BSU, 21-4
Bemidji State and Wayland Baptist each scored three runs in the first inning, and the Beavers grabbed a 4-3 advantage on a sacrifice fly by Matt Pesta (Long Prairie, Minn.) in the fourth, but the Pioneers piled on nine runs in the fourth and rode strong relief pitching to post a 21-4 victory over the Beavers in non-conference play.

March 13, 2006 - BSU picks up first win at Wayland Baptist
Bemidji State infielder Matt Pesta (Long Prairie, Minn.) went 2-for-5 with a team-leading five RBI, helping lift the Beavers past Wayland Baptist (Texas), 16-6, in non-conference play yesterday. The victory was the first of the season for Bemidji State, and the first for BSU rookie skipper Tim Bellew.

March 5, 2006 - Beavers drop twinbill at Emporia State

Bemidji State dropped a double-header at 10th-ranked Emporia State on March 5, falling 9-6 in Game 1 and 4-0 in the nightcap. BSU led 5-2 heading into the bottom of the fourth in Game 1, and suffered a one-hit shutout in the second game. BSU's scheduled double-header at ESU on March 4 was cancelled due to rain.

March 3, 2006 - BSU swept at SW Baptist to open 2006 season

Bemidji State baseball opened its 2006 season by dropping both games of a double-header at Southwest Baptist. The Beavers dropped Game 1 of a two-game double-header 5-1, and dropped a 4-3 decision in 10 innings in the nightcap.

Jan. 23, 2006 - Bemidji State announces 2006 baseball schedule
Eleven games against teams which advanced to the 2005 NCAA Central Regional, including a contest with Central Regional champion and eventual national semifinalist Central Missouri State, dot Bemidji State University’s 2006 baseball schedule, as announced today by first-year head coach Tim Bellew. In total, the slate awaiting BSU’s rookie skipper includes 56 scheduled contests with BSU’s traditional imbalanced schedule of 38 road contests and 18 scheduled home games.

Dec. 2, 2005 - BSU plans winter baseball camp
The Bemidji State University baseball program, in conjunction with Bemidji Youth Baseball, will hold a day camp on Dec. 17 and 18 at the Gillette Recreation and Fitness Center on the Bemidji State campus. The camps are open to boys and girls, ages 7-14.

Aug. 31, 2005 - Tim Bellew named Bemidji State head coach
BellewBemidji State Director of Athletics Dr. Rick Goeb today announced the hiring of Tim Bellew as the ninth head baseball coach in the 54-year history of the program. Bellew will also serve as the manager of BSU’s athletics concessions.
