Bemidji State goes 0-3 in Holiday Inn Express Tournament
WARRENSBURG, Mo. (Crane Stadium)- [box]
- Nebraska Omaha jumped out to a 3-0 lead and was able to
hold off a Bemidji State comeback to earn a 3-2 win over the
Beavers in Bemidji State’s third and final game of the
Holiday Inn Express Tournament in Warrensburg, Mo. Bemidji
State lost all three games that they played in Missouri, seeing
their record fall to 0-7 on the season.
The Mavericks scored the games first run in the second inning.
Chris Weimer led the inning off with a bunt single and then
moved to third on Matt Boro’s double to left center
field. Brian Goliber then walked to load the bases with one
out in the inning. Alex Kotera pushed the Mavericks first
run across when he hit a sacrifice fly to center field which
allowed Weimer to tag up and score from third to give the
Mavericks a 1-0 lead. The Mavericks pushed its lead to 2-0
on a throwing error by BSU second baseman Mike Wagner (Plymouth,
N.H.), the error by Wagner allowed Boro to score from third
with two outs.
The Mavericks increased its lead to 3-0 in the fourth inning
when Brian Goliber homered to left field.
Bemidji State finally got on the board in the sixth inning
when the Maverick pitcher Josh Lundin struggled to find the
plate and walked three Bemidji State batters in the inning.
Anthony Stoloski (Half Moon Bay, Calif.) reached on a fielding
error by the Maverick third baseman to start the inning for
the Beavers.
Brian Simon (Owatonna, Minn.) and Mike Wagner (Plymouth, N.H.)
would each draw walks to load the bases for the Beavers with
two outs. Gary Molck (East Grand Forks, Minn.) picked up an
RBI the easy way when he drew a walk to score Stoloski from
third to bring the Beavers to a two run deficit.
Bemidji State made it a one run game in the eight inning.
Ryan Bohannan (Goodyear, Ariz.) singled to right field and
advanced to third on P.J. McIntee’s (Randolph, Minn.)
single to right field. Gary Molck (East Grand Forks, Minn.)
pushed Bohannan across when he reached on a fielder’s
choice to bring the Beavers to a 3-2 deficit.
The Beavers final at bats saw Tony Samuelson (Pine City, Minn.)
lead the inning off with a walk. Samuelson’s walk was
eliminated when Anthony Stoloski (Half Moon Bay, Calif.) hit
into a double play. Eric Pilgrim (Park Rapids, Minn.) struck
out to end the game for the Beavers and extend the Beavers
losing streak to seven games.
Josh Silvernagel (Bismarck, N.D.) was the lone BSU hitter
to notch multiple hits; he went 2-for-3 in the contest.
Josh Juntunen (Elk River, Minn.) took the loss for the Beavers
on the mound, allowing two earned runs on nine hits and two
walks in six innings of work. BSU used just one man out of
the bullpen in the contest, Tony Meech (Menahga, Minn.) pitched
two innings with out giving up a run and allowing just one
hit.
Josh Lundin allowed one of BSU’s runs on four hits in
five and two-thirds innings of work, picking up his first
win of the season. Three Mavericks made an appearance out
of the bullpen.
Bemidji State (0-7) returns to action on March 8, 2007 as
the Beavers will travel to Hays, Kan. to take on the Fort
Hays State Tigers in a nine inning contest at 6:00 p.m.
