BSU falls 5-0 and 6-1 versus Tigers
ARKADELPHIA, Ark. (Rab Rodgers Field) -

2]- The No. 15 team in the nation the Ouachita Baptist
Tigers used stellar pitching to complete a sweep over the
Beavers in a doubleheader this afternoon in Arkadelphia, Ark.
The Tiger pitching staff gave up seven hits in both Game 1
and Game 2 to help the Tigers pick up a 5-0 shutout win in
Game 1 and a 6-1 win in Game 2.
Game 1 saw the Tigers break the deadlock tie in the fourth
inning on a RBI single by Jim Streicher. The Tigers pushed
its lead to 2-0 in the sixth inning of play when Destan Makonnen
hit a one out homerun to give the Tigers pitcher Patrick Lemmond
a little breathing room.
The Tigers pushed their lead to 5-0 when they had a three
run eight inning. Jeremy Haworth hit a bases clearing double
picking up all three RBI’s in the inning. The Beavers
tried to string something together in the ninth inning when
Eric Pilgrim (Park Rapids, Minn.) singled to center field
to start the inning off for Beavers. Pilgrim would get to
second base but that was as far as he would go and the Tigers
would shutdown any thought of a Bemidji State rally to take
game 1, 5-0.
The Beavers were lead by Eric Pilgrim who went 3-for-4 and
P.J. McIntee (Randolph, Minn.) who was 2-for-4 in the contest.
Chad Schwegel (St. Joseph, Minn.) gave an outstanding effort
for the Beavers giving up just two runs on eight hits with
one walk and picking up three strikeouts in six innings of
work. Schwegel picked up the loss falling to 0-1 on the season.
Bryan Buhr (Frazee, Minn.) and Tony Meech (Menahga, Minn.)
came in for relief for the Beavers. Buhr pitched an 1 1/3
innings giving up one run on one hit and Meech pitched 2/3
of an inning giving up two runs on one hit.
Keith Barrett and Patrick Lemmond combined for a shutout win
for the Tigers. Barrett got the start giving up zero runs
on five hits and six strikeouts in five innings of work and
Lemmond came in and continued the shutout giving up just two
hits and striking out two batters in four innings of work.
The Tigers broke the game open early with a four run first
inning. Jeremy Haworth picked up a two RBI homerun to put
the Tigers up 2-0. Chandler Boyce and Brock McCorkle had the
other two RBI in the first inning to give the Tigers an early
4-0 lead in Game 2.
Ouachita Baptist picked up runs in the third and fourth inning
to push its lead to 6-0. Chris Marx hit an RBI single to center
field in the third inning and Justin Pennell hit a sacrifice
fly to right field to score the Tigers lone run in the fourth
inning to give the Tigers a 6-0 lead with three innings left
to play.
Bemidji State scored its lone run of the day in the top of
the seventh inning. The Beavers scored its lone run of the
game with two outs in the inning, Mike Wagner (Plymouth, N.H.)
picked up the RBI on a single down the right field line scoring
Mark Henry (Grand Rapids, Minn.) for third. The Tigers ended
the game with a strikeout of Nick Noack (Hudson, Wis.) to
complete a 6-1 victory.
Josh Juntunen (Elk River, Minn.) picked up the loss for the
Beavers giving up all six runs on seven hits with four walks
in four innings of work. Karl Willers (Slayton, Minn.) pitched
two scoreless innings giving up three hits.
Zach Wilbanks picked up the win for the Tigers giving up zero
runs on four hits with three strikeouts in six innings of
work. Matt Lemmond pitched one inning of relief giving up
the lone run on three hits with one walk.
The Beavers were led by Mike Wagner (Plymouth, N.H.) who went
3-for-3 in the game with the Beavers lone RBI.
Bemidji State (0-12) and No. 15 Ouachita Baptist (20-2) will
wrap up its three game set tomorrow afternoon when the Beavers
and Tigers will play a nine inning contest at Rab Rodgers
Field. The first pitch is slated for 1:00 p.m.
