Sophomore safety notches 11 tackles in win at River Falls
ST. PAUL, Minn. - Bemidji State sophomore safety Jeremiah Johnson (Glidden, Iowa) has been named Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Defensive Player of the Week for his efforts in BSU’s Sept. 17 win at Wis.-River Falls, the NSIC office announced yesterday.
Johnson recorded 11 tackles, season-high for a BSU defender, including four solo stops in BSU’s Sept. 17 victory at Wis.-River Falls.
It marks the third time in three games a Bemidji State player has been recognized by the NSIC. Quarterback Nathan Sannes (Fertile, Minn.) was NSIC Offensive Player of the Week after BSU’s opener at Minot State, and wide receiver Anthony Schreiber (Berkeley, Ill.) was NSIC Offensive Player of the Week after its Week 2 win over Minnesota State.
Concordia-St. Paul quarterback James McNear is this week’s NSIC Offensive Player of the Week, while Southwest Minnesota State wide receiver Mike Wierson is the league’s Special Teams Player of the Week.
The award marks the first time Johnson has been recognized for his performance by the NSIC.
Bemidji State opens NSIC play on Saturday, Sept. 24 at Concordia-St. Paul. Opening kickoff is slated for 1:30 p.m. at Griffin Stadium in St. Paul, Minn. BSU will be seeking its first victory in four trips to Concordia.
