ST. PAUL, Minn. - When the Bemidji State University football team travels to Winona State to battle Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference rival Winona State University this season, it will play to a live regional audience. NSIC Commissioner Butch Raymond announced today that Fox Sports Net North will air the game between the Beavers and Warriors set for Saturday, October 20th at 3:30 p.m.
The game has been changed from its original 1:00 p.m. kick off to 3:30 p.m. to allow FSN North to broadcast the game live.
“The NSIC is very excited to have FSN air this game live,” commented Raymond. “We are excited about the competitiveness of our league in all sports and we are happy to be able to broadcast such a high profile game to our fans. We look forward to doing more events like this in the future.”
Bemidji State, 1-1 in 2007, is coming off a season in which it went 9-3 overall and posted a perfect 8-0 mark in league play. The team also captured its first outright conference championship before falling 35-27 to No. 16 Pittsburg State (Kan.) in its first appearance at the Mineral Water Bowl in Excelsior Springs, Mo.
The Warriors are 1-1 this season and are coming off a 9-3 2006 campaign in which they finished second in the NSIC with a record of 7-1 NCAA DII Playoffs. Their only conference loss was a 28-7 loss at Bemidji State on October 21st. WSU has won or shared the NSIC Football Championship five of the last seven years and have reached the NCAA Playoffs four times since the 2001 season.
The FSN broadcast brings BSU's total of television appearances in 2007 to six. In addition to the FSN game, each of the Beavers five home contests are scheduled to be televised locally on KBSU to Charter Communications customers.
FSN North reaches North Dakota, South Dakota, Minnesota, Northern Iowa and Western Wisconsin, totaling over two million households.
In Bemidji, Charter Communication subscribers will be able to view the game on channel 27 while FSN North appears on channel 56 for Paul Bunyan Television customers.
