Schreiber scores second NSIC Player of the Week award
Senior return specialist nabs his second league honor of 2007

Sept. 24, 2007

ST. PAUL, Minn. - Anthony Schreiber has run away with another Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Special Teams Player of the Week award. The league today announced that the senior wideout and return specialist from Berkeley. Ill. has been selected for the honor for his contribution in the 47-9 victory over University Minnesota, Crookston Saturday.

Schreiber took the opening kick and sparked the Bemidji State University scoring. He fielded the Minnesota, Crookston kick off at his own 10 yard line and returned it 90 yards to spot the Beavers a 7-0 lead just 14 seconds into the first quarter.

The return touchdown is his second of the season following a punt returned for a score in BSU home-opener versus Minot State. He also added a 30-yard touchdown reception this week.

Schreiber now has four touchdowns on the season and 25 in his career, moving the senior playmaker into a tie with Adam Noble (2001-04) for eighth place on the school's all-time touchdowns scored list.

The award marks Schreiber’s second Player of the Week honor of the season and the third football laurel by a BSU student-athlete in 2007. Paul Potemra also earned the special teams honor Sept. 17.

Schreiber has now been selected for the weekly league award on four occasions. In addition to his Sept. 10 special teams selection this season, he was also a recipient of the Offensive Player of the Week Sept. 12, 2005 and again Nov. 13, 2006.

Minnesota State University Moorhead quarterback Dustin Long was named as the NSIC Offensive Player of the Week while Brent Yule of Winona State University earned the Defensive Player of the Week honor.

The Beavers, 3-1 overall and 2-0 in conference play, return home Saturday (Sept. 29) to battle Northern State University in the BSU's Homecoming Game. The NSIC contest is set for a 1 p.m. kick off at Chet Anderson Stadium.
