INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- The Bemidji State University football team held down the No.10 spot in the third NCAA Division II Super Region Three Rankings of 2009 released today by the NCAA Division II Football Committee. The Beavers remain in the 10th spot despite a 45-6 victory over University of Minnesota, Crookston at Ed Widseth Field Saturday.
Bemidji State joins fellow Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference members Minnesota State University, Mankato, University of Minnesota Duluth and Wayne State College among the region’s top 10.
Undefeated Minnesota State remains tops in the region followed by University of Nebraska-Kearney, which jumped two spots into second in the second edition of the poll. Minnesota Duluth moved up one position into third with Wayne State rounding out the top four. Saginaw Valley State University, Wayne State University (Mich.) and Findlay University (Ohio) each moved up one spot to fifth, sixth and seventh, respectively, while Hillsdale College of Michigan makes its debut in the rankings at No. 8. Grand Valley State University fell from second to ninth this week to finish just ahead of Bemidji State.
In addition to teams from the NSIC, Super Region Three is made up of teams competing in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) and the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC).
Six teams from each of the four NCAA Division II Super Regions will qualify for the 16-team NCAA Division II Playoffs that are slated to start Nov. 14, 2009.
The 6-2 Beavers, who are now 5-2 in NSIC competition, return to Chet Anderson Stadium Saturday to close out the home portion of the 2009 schedule. The home finale will feature a pair of regionally-ranked teams in BSU and defending national champion Minnesota Duluth in a game that could have major post season implications for both teams. The opening kick off is slated for 1 p.m.
