Nov. 2, 2009

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- The Bemidji State University football team used a decisive victory over the University of Mary (N.D.) to vault back into the NCAA Division II Super Region Three rankings released recently by the NCAA Division II Football Committee.

Bemidji State joins fellow Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference members Minnesota State University, Mankato, University of Minnesota Duluth, Wayne State College (Neb.) and Winona State University among the region’s top 10.

The top two spots in the poll remained unchanged in the newest edition of the publication. Undefeated Minnesota State remains tops in the region followed by University of Minnesota Duluth. Grand Valley State University slid up a spot to No. 3, while University of Nebraska-Kearney climbed from No. 6 to No. 4. Saginaw Valley State University anchored No. 5 for the second consecutive week and Hillsdale slipped down three spots to No. 6 just ahead of the Beavers reemergence at seven. Wayne State (Neb.) took No. 8, No. 9 was occupied by Findlay University (Ohio) and Winona State rounded out the poll at No. 10.

In addition to teams from the NSIC, Super Region Three is made up of teams competing in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) and the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC).

Six teams from each of the four NCAA Division II Super Regions will qualify for the 16-team NCAA Division II Playoffs that are slated to start Nov. 14, 2009.

The 7-3 Beavers, who are now 6-3 in NSIC competition, hit the road next weekend to wrap up the regular season with a 1:00 p.m. match up with their conference rival Concordia University-St. Paul at the newly-opened Sea Foam Stadium.
