Marshall, Minn. - In firing 15 birdies in the
two-day affair, the second-most out of any team, Bemidji
State University
ended fifth with a 1,002 (329-340-333) at the 2003
NCAA II Women’s North Regional Golf Tournament
at the Marshall Country Club.
The Beavers ended up right where they were ranked
in the region as senior Jeanne Larson (Springfield,
Minn.) ended her brilliant career leading the team
with
the lowest score. Larson, who tied for the most birdies (6) on the circuit, tied
for tenth with a 243 (84-79-80). Larson competed individually in last season’s
regionals and tied for 21st overall with a 176 (91-85). She leaves BSU as a four-time
All-Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference pick.
The downfall for BSU was par-golf as it totaled the lowest amount (85) out of
all six of the teams.
Finishing strong behind Larson was junior Tracy Depew (Bemidji, Minn.) as she
tallied a 248 (81-87-80) to tie for 17th. Junior Dana Hasselberg (Staples, Minn.)
shot a 255 (78-89-88) while senior Marci Falldorf (Bemidji, Minn.) carded a 256
(86-85-85) to tie for 23rd and tie for 25th, respectively. Hasselberg had the
low BSU round for the tournament with a first-day 78.
Sophomore Courtney Wallace (Park Rapids, Minn.) wrapped up the Beaver scoring
as she placed 33rd with a 286 (91-99-96).
Team champion Northern Colorado and second-place MSU-Mankato advance to the NCAA
Championships, May 14-17 in Howey-in-the-Hills, Florida. The top two individuals
plus Sarah LeClair from St. Cloud State and Laura Lundbohm from Southwest State
move on in the tournament as the pair were the top golfers from non-qualifying
teams.
As a team, the Beavers have never made an appearance in the NCAA DII Championships
- the post-season format began in 1996.
