ST. JOSEPH, Mo. - [day 1 results] The Bemidji State University men’s golf team finished a cold and windy first day of competition at the NCAA Division II Central/Great Lakes Super Regional Monday afternoon tied with Southwest Baptist University for seventh place at the Par-71 St. Joseph Country Club in St. Joseph, Mo. Washburn's Chris McGown was the only golfer in the Central Region to fire a sub-par score, leading the tournament after shooting a one-under 70 on Day 1.

Winona State University's Justin Carrier shot an even-par 71 in his first round while Missouri Western University's Brice Garnett tied Southern's Travis Stockholm with a one-over par 72 to tie for third place.

BSU performers Neil Rude (Fr., White Bear Lake, Minn.) and Allen Zutz (Sr., Red Lake Falls, Minn.) currently share 28th place after both shot an eight-over par 79. Matt Gorden (Sr., Detroit Lakes, Minn.) begins Day 2 in a tie for 41st after recording a 15-over par 86 and Hiraku Aoki (So., Akita, Japan) rounds out BSU's competitors in a tie for the 43rd spot after a first-round score of 16-over par 87.
