ST. JOSEPH, Mo. - [day
2 results] The Bemidji State University men’s golf
team moved in to sole possession of seventh place after two
rounds of the 2005 NCAA Division II Central/Great Lakes Super
Regional Tuesday at the par-71 St. Joseph Country Club in
St. Joseph, Mo. The Beavers shaved 15 strokes off of their
first-round total on day two carding a 307 (+23).
Neil Rude (Fr., White Bear Lake, Minn.) propelled
BSU ahead of Truman State University firing a team-best one-over
par 72, which places him in a tie for 11th after two rounds
of competition.
Washburn University continues to hold down the top team spot
carding a 294 (+10). After two rounds WU has totaled 298-294=592,
leading its closest competition, Missouri Western State University,
and the rest of the field by seven strokes.
Just 24-hours after being the only Central Region golfer to
post an sub-par score, Washburn's Chris McGown was pushed
out of first place as Brice Garnett from Missouri Western
State shot a day 2-best two-under par 69 to take the top spot
individually.
BSU's Toby Palmiscno (Sr., Grand Forks, N.D.)
posted a second-round 79 (+7) to stay in the top 30 individuals.
Matt Gorden (Sr., Detroit Lakes, Minn.) bettered
his first round score by 11 strokes to move into 37th place
and Allen Zutz (Sr., Red Lake Falls, Minn.)
currently sits in 41st place with a two-day total of 79-87=166.
Hiraku Aoki (So., Akita, Japan) rounds out
BSU's competitors in 42nd spot after a day two score of 81.
In the Great Lakes Regional, also at the St. Joseph Country
Club, Northern Kentucky University increased its lead to 18
shots after two rounds. Indianapolis University's Chris Clemens
posted an even 71 in day two while day one leader Curtis Phelps
(Northern Kentucky) followed a three-under par 68 with a six-over
par 77 to finish day 2 in a tie for first.
The final round of the super regional will begin Wednesday
at 8:00 a.m.
