MANKATO, Minn. (Mankato Golf Club) - Despite
a three-over-par, 74, for sophomore Clint Cornell
(Grand Rapids, Minn.), the Bemidji State University
men's golf team completed the 18-hole Maverick Invitational
tied for eighth place shooting 317 at the par-71 Mankato Golf
Club in Mankato, Minn., Tuesday. The Beavers and the University
of North Dakota shared the eighth spot in the 11-team event.
Cornell's 38-36=74 knotted him with Minnesota State University's
Brandon Loesch (37-37=74) and Andrew Thomas (37-37=74) of
Upper Iowa University for second place just one stroke behind
medallist Kenny Hertzell (36-37=73) of Augustana College.
Other notable scores for BSU were Mitchell Mackedanz
(Paynesville, Minn.) who fired a 37-41=78 for 23rd place,
Neil Rude (WHite Bear Lake, Minn.) who shot
43-38=81 to finish in 30th and Adam McArthur's
(Detroit Lakes, Minn.), who was competing as an individual,
40-40=80 to complete the event tied for 35th.
Three teams tied for top honors at the invite as Winona State
University, Upper Iowa and the host, Minnesota State each
carded a team total of 304. Just two strokes back, in fourth,
was the University of Minnesota-Crookston (306) followed by
St. Cloud State (311), Augustana College (314) and South Dakota
(315) in seventh place. Behind BSU and UND, Wayne State College
and Concordia University-St. Paul found themselves tied for
a distant 10th place totaling 342.
The Beavers will be back in action Monday, April 17 and Tuesday
April 18th when they travel to Cold Spring, Minn. and its
Rich Spring Golf Club for the St. John's Invitational. Teams
are set to tee off at 8 a.m.
