1] After 18 holes of the 54-hole NCAA DII Central/Great
Lakes Super Regional at Prairie Bluff Golf Course in Lockport,
Ill., the Bemidji State University men's golf team sits in
eighth place in the Central Region firing a first-round team
total of 313 (+25). Clint Cornell and
Neil Rude each shot a 75 (+3) today tying for 16th
place to pace the Beavers.
Winona State University currently holds a seven shot lead
for the top spot (288) as the Warriors' Troy Merritt carded
a five-under-par 67 on day one to lead all participants. Washburn
University claimed second place (295) while Central Missouri
State University is in third, just one shot out of second
(296).
The Beavers are six shots behind Northern Sun Intercollegiate
Conference counterpart University of Minnesota-Crookston (307).
In the Great Lakes Regional, also at Prairie Bluff Golf Club,
Northern Kentucky University carded an even 288 in the first
round of competition as Grand Valley State University's Steve
Larson sits atop the leader board at -3 (69).
Up for grabs at the super regional is a trip to the NCAA
DII Men's Golf Championship May 16-19 at The Resort at Glade
Springs in Daniels, W.V. The top team from each region, within
the super regional, and the top two individuals not with a
team from each super regional (regardless of region) will
advance.
Competition continues tomorrow with round two at Prairie
Bluff Golf Course.
