Lockport, Ill. (Prairie Bluff Golf Club) - [day 2] The Bemidji State University men’s golf team remains in eighth place after two rounds of the 2006 NCAA Division II Central/Great Lakes Super Regional at the par-72 Prairie Bluff Golf Club in Lockport, Ill. The Beavers shaved four strokes off of their first-round total on day two carding a 309 (+21). Clint Cornell (So., Grand Rapids, Minn.) paced BSU firing a team-best two-over par 74, which places him in a tie for 12th after two rounds of competition.

Round one leader Winona State dropped 10 strokes on day two and Washburn University took advantage posting a 289 to slide past the Warriors and take a two-stroke lead with 18 holes remaining. After two rounds WU has totaled 295-289=584. After Winona State (288-298=586) Missouri Southern State (299-289=588) and Central Missouri State (296-293=589) are just two and three stroke back in third and fourth place respectively.

BSU's total of 313-309=622 places it 12 strokes behind Minnesota-Crookston (307-307=614) for seventh place and 46 stokes off the lead.

Individually, Winona State's Troy Merritt remains in the lead after 36 holes at -4 (67-73=140) Ty Needles of Central Missouri State is four strokes back (E) alone in second.

In addition to Cornell, Neil Rude carded a seven-over-par 79 to sit in a tie for 27th (+10) while Mitch Mackedanz is in 35th shaving a stoke off his first round total (78) at +13. Al Zutz bettered his fist day total posting a 78 Tuesday to take 39th (+18) and Michael Abramson rounds out BSU competitors in the 44th spot after day two score of 81 (+25).

In the Great Lakes Regional, also at Prairie Bluff Golf Club, Northern Kentucky University posted a +12 300 but remained atop the leader board (288-300+622). Grand Valley State's Steve Larson continues to lead all individuals in the Great Lakes Region at -2 (69-73=142).

The final round of the super regional will begin Wednesday at 8:00 a.m.
