ST. PAUL, Minn. -- Bemidji State sophomore Michael
Abrahamson (Duluth, Minn.) has been named as the
Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Men’s Golfer
of the Week, the league office announced today.
Abrahamson finished the 2006 Central Region Fall Invitational
alone atop the leader board while helping the Beavers to a
nine-stroke lead for the team title.
Abrahamson’s 36-hole, two-day total of 69-72=141 (-3)
at Wildflower Golf Course in Detroit Lakes, Minn. made him
the only participant to finish the event under par while edging
out his nearest competitor, BSU’s Jeff Peltier
(Sr., Grand Rapids, Minn.), by three strokes.
Following the lead of Abrahamson, the Beavers cruised to their
first team title of 2006. BSU posted an event total of 289-296=585
(+9) while NSIC foe Winona State University finished in second
place (293-301=594 +18).
The award is the second of the season for the BSU men’s
golf team and the first of Abrahamson’s collegiate career.
He follows Neil Rude (Jr., White Bear Lake,
Minn.) who earned the award after his performance at the Sioux
Invitational last week (Sept. 27).
The Beavers now turn their focus to the NNSIC Championships.
The tournament is slated for Oct. 7-8 at the Pebble Creek
Golf Course in Becker, Minn.
