BECKER, Minn. (Pebble Creek Golf Club) -- The Bemidji State University men’s golf team shaved eight strokes from its round one total to card a 299 during the final 18 holes of the 2007 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Championship at Pebble Creek Golf Club in Becker, Minn. Sunday and jumped up one place to finish second (307-299--606). BSU newcomer Jim Foss (Fr., Roseau, Minn.) paced the Beavers finishing fifth individually to earn all-conference honors.
In all, three BSU student-athletes among the top 10 in the event. In addition to Foss' 75-75-150 (+6), seniors Neil Rude (White Bear Lake, Minn.) and Clint Cornell (Grand Forks, Minn.) tied for tenth posting a 152 (+8) in the 36-hole event.
On the shoulders of the second consecutive medallist performance from Brady Strangstalien (68-72--140; -2), Winona State University grabbed its fifth straight NSIC men's team title. As the top player in the event Strangstalien was named NSIC Player of the Year while WSU head coach Robert Newberry was selected as conference Coach of the Year.
Behind BSU in the team standings, Upper Iowa University took third place (304-304--608), Concordia University-St. Paul placed fourth (316-298--614) and University of Minnesota, Crookston slid into the No. 5 spot (310-313--623). Rounding out the event University of Mary (N.D.), Northern State University and Wayne State College finished six, seventh and eighth respectively.
The championship concludes the fall portion of the season
for BSU. The Beavers will tee off again in the spring of 2008
in search of another appearance in the NCAA Division II Regional.
