BEMIDJI, Minn. -- The Bemidji State University men's
golf team took advantage of the wonderful weather conditions
Tuesday and squeezed an additional event into the 2007 spring
slate.
The Beavers defeated the University of Minnesota, Crookston
in head-to-head competition at the par-72 Bemidji Town and
Country Club, 298-316.
Bemidji State's Neil Rude (Jr., White Bear
Lake, Minn) fired a one-over-par 73(33-40) to take medallist
honors while leading Bemidji State to an 18-stroke win over
the visiting Golden Eagles. BSU claimed the top three spots
with Jeff Peltier (Sr., Grand Rapids, Minn.)
coming in on the heels of Rude with a 35-39--74 (+2) and Clint
Cornell (So., Grand Rapids, Minn.) sliding into a
tie for third place with a 39-36--75 (+3).
Steven Busho and Kyle Peterson paced the UMC squad as each
carded a four-over 76.
With the 2007 spring regular-season in the books, the Beavers
who are ranked fifth in the Central Region, now put post-season
hopes in the hands of the NCAA regional committee. An announcement
is expected this week extending team and individual invitations
to the NCAA Division II Super Regionals.
Eight teams from each of the ten regions are selected by the
NCAA to compete in super regional tournaments the with champions
for each super regional moving on to the NCAA Division II
Championship May 22-25 at The Meadows in Allendale, Michigan.
BSU has competed in the past two Central/Great Lakes Regional
Tournaments and an invitation in 2007 would send Beavers to
Twin Hills Golf and Country Club in Joplin, Missouri May 7-9.
