MARSHALL, Minn.
(Marshall Golf Club) -- Jenna Schurman (Sauk Centre, Minn.) led the Bemidji State University contingent in the first day of the Mustang Invitational at Marshall Golf Club in Marshall, Minn.

The junior carded a first-round score of 91 (+19) to finish the day tied with four others for 55th place. She was 14 strokes off the pace University of Nebraska-Omaha’s Lindsey Newton’s 77 (+5) who finished the day in the top spot.

In addition to Newton, two other Mavericks finished in the top 10 as Nebraska-Omaha holds a eight-stoke lead over the field entering the final 18 holes of the event.

Other student-athletes participating for BSU were Marissa Mackedanz (Paynesville, Minn.) and Courtney Edwards (New London, Minn.). Mackedanz finished in 69th after a first round score of 94 (+22) while Edwards carded a 96 (+24) to finish in 76th.

The Bemidji State women will be in action again tomorrow as the team wraps up competition at the Mustang Invite. The final round is set for a 9 a.m. shot gun start a the Marshall Golf Club.
