April 22, 2008

GRAND FORKS, N.D.
(Grand Forks Country Club) -- The Bemidji State University men’s golf team recorded a 10-over-par, 298 to defeat University of Minnesota, Crookston (316) by 18 strokes Tuesday in duel competition at the par-72, 6,437-yard Grand Forks Country Club.

The Beavers were benefactors of improved weather conditions on the second day of competition in Grand Forks. A day after turning in a score of 314 on a cool, stormy afternoon, the team shaved 16 shots from its total to defeat the Golden Eagles for the second time in as many days.

BSU was led by junior Mitch Mackedanz (Paynesville, Minn.) who was the only golfer to finish the 18-hole event under par, firing a 70 (-2) to earn medallist honors. Jake Sanders recorded a 74 (+2) to lead the Golden Eagles and finish four shots off the pace in second place.

In addition to Mackedanz, Neil Rude (Sr., White Bear Lake, Minn.) and Josh Dale (So., Pequot Lakes, Minn.) tied for third place five shots back with 75 (+3), while Derek Harris (Jr., Fergus Falls, Minn.) and Adam McArthur (Jr., Detroit Lakes, Minn.) carded matching 76s (+4) to share sixth.

The Beavers return to action April 27 when they travel to Monticello, Minn. for the St. John’s Invitational. The event is set for the Monticello Country Club.
