GRAND FORKS, N.D. (Grand Forks Country Club) -- The Bemidji State University women’s golf team completed its spring season April 21-22 as it participated in a pair of duel events with University of Minnesota, Crookston at Grand Forks, Country Club in Grand Forks, N.D.

The Beavers prevailed in the first 18-hole event but the Golden Eagles came back on day two to edge BSU by a stroke.

Monday, the teams were faced with the challenge of playing in less than ideal weather. Despite the cold, wet course conditions, Bemidji State, led by Jenna Schurman (Jr., Sauk Centre, Minn.) and Marissa Mackedanz (So., Paynesville, Minn.) who posted matching scores of 87 to share medallist honors, cruised to a 31-shot victory over UMC. The Beavers recorded a team total of 397 (+109) while the Golden Eagles struggled to an 18-hole total of 428 (+140).

The second duel brought with it better weather and a different outcome. The Golden Eagles bounced back, shaving a blistering 53 strokes from their day-one total, to nip the Beavers. Although BSU trimmed 21 shots from its first round total (376), UMC’s team result of 375 allowed the Golden Eagles to slip past the Beavers.

Schurman again paved the way for BSU Tuesday. She finished 11-over-par to claim the event’s low score for the second consecutive day. UMC’s Jackie Otterson was one shot back in second with an 84 (+12) while Courtney Edwards (Fr., Spicer, Minn.) posted an 86 (+14) to hold down the No. 3 spot for the second time in as many days.

With no events left on the 2008 regular-season spring slate, the Beavers will hang up their clubs for the summer and return to collegiate competition in mid-September.
