Nov. 15, 2002

BEMIDJI, Minn. - Bemidji State University head men’s ice hockey coach Tom Serratore today announced the signing of defenseman Chris Nathe and forward Morod Radmacher to early-period national letters of intent. The duo will join the Bemidji State program for 2003-04.

• Chris Nathe (D, 5-11, 175; Elk River, Minn.; born Oct. 21, 1982) will join the Beavers after a two-year career with the United States Hockey League’s Tri-City Storm. After 14 games this season, Nathe has scored 3-6=9 points, fifth on the team and tops amongst defensemen, with a pair of power-play goals. In 2001-02, Nathe finished amongst the Storm’s top 10 in scoring and was second amongst defensemen with 8-15=23 points and tied for the team lead with four game-winning goals.

Nathe will bring a Minnesota hockey bloodline to BSU, having helped lead Elk River (Minn.) High School to the 2001 Class AA State Championship. Nathe scored four points in the state tournament, including a 1-2=3 point effort in Elk River’s 4-3 semifinal win over Hastings. Nathe earned All-Tournament Team honors for his efforts. Nathe also represented Team Minnesota at the National Chicago High School Hockey Tournament. Nathe earned Third-Team All-Metro and Honorable-Mention All-State honors as well, and was a three-time letterwinner and honorable-mention All-Conference pick in soccer.

BSU coaches on Nathe: “Chris is a skilled offensive-minded defenseman with great hands and excellent vision on the ice. He makes plays all over the ice, especially on the offensive blue line. He will be another power-play specialist for us.”

• Morod Radmacher (F, 5-10, 175; Calgary, Alberta; born July 26, 1983) will join former Olds Grizzlies teammate and current BSU first-line left winger Ryan Huddy with the Beavers next fall. Radmacher, currently with the USHL’s Sioux Falls Stampede, has appeared in 14 games for the Stampede and is second on the team and fifth in the USHL with 8-12=20 points. Radmacher earned USHL Offensive Player of the Week honors for the week of Oct. 21, 2002 after leading the team to a pair of wins with a 2-4=6 point effort over the three-game weekend.

Radmacher shared a spot on the 2002 Alberta Junior Hockey League Top Prospects team with Huddy while playing with the Grizzlies, and was also named to the 2001 Top Prospects team. The Top Prospects team recognizes 17-19-year-old players who have not yet committed to NCAA institutions.

BSU coaches on Radmacher: “Morod is a skilled forward who skates well and has the ability to make plays. He is a proven goal-scorer and will be a very effective power-play player.”

Bemidji State enters a key College Hockey America series with the Wayne State Warriors sitting atop the CHA standings at 1-2-5 overall and 1-0-1 (three points) in league play. Opening face-off for Game 1 of the Wayne State series is scheduled for 7:35 p.m. Central time at the John S. Glas Fieldhouse.
