Erickson ties school record with fourth Rookie of the Week
award this year
BEMIDJI, Minn. - Bemidji State junior forward Brendan
Cook and freshman wing Luke
Erickson have been named College Hockey
America Offensive Player and Rookie of the Week, respectively,
for their efforts in BSU’s weekend sweep of Wayne State
(Mich.) in CHA play, the league office announced today.
Cook torched Wayne State for 3-3=6 points this weekend,
scoring a career-high 2-2=4 points in Game 1 and 1-1=2 points
in Game 2 and had a hand in both game-winning goals. In Game
1, Cook put BSU ahead 2-0 with an even-strength goal in the
first period and provided the eventual game-winner with his
third short-handed goal of the season in the second. He also
assisted on both BSU power-play goals in the contest. In
Game 2, Cook assisted on the game-winning goal and scored
his team-leading fifth power-play goal.
In four games against Wayne State this season, Cook scored
6-3=9 points with a hat trick.
Erickson scored 1-5=6 points in BSU’s weekend sweep
of Wayne State, rolling up a career-high 1-3=4 points in
Game 1 and picking up a pair of assists in Game 2. Erickson
assisted on both game-winning goals in the series, and five
of his six points came on special teams.
Remarkably, all four of Erickson’s Game 1 points came
on special teams. He scored his ninth goal of the season
on the power play in the second period and he assisted on
both Brendan Cook goals (including the short-handed game-winner)
and Peter Jonsson’s power-play goal in the third period.
In Game 2, Erickson helped on Ryan Miller’s first-period
game-winner and provided the first assist on Cook’s
power-play goal in the second.
The six-point effort vaulted Erickson into first in the
CHA and seventh in the nation in rookie scoring.
Cook wins his second Offensive Player of the Week award
this season, while Erickson ties teammate Riley Riddell with
his school-record fourth CHA Rookie of the Week honor this
season.
Ala.-Huntsville defenseman Ryan Brown and Findlay goaltender
Jon Horrell shared this week’s CHA Defensive Player
of the Week laurels. Brown tied a CHA record with five assists
in a 6-2 win at Air Force, while Horrell saved all 49 shots
faced in a 0-0 draw with Ferris State.
Bemidji State’s sweep at Wayne State improved the
program to 13-7-2 on the season, 10-2-0 in College Hockey
America. The sweep helped BSU regain sole possession of first
place in CHA with 20 points, four points ahead of Niagara
(8-2-0, 16 points). BSU is back in action this weekend with
a CHA series against Findlay. The series is slated for 7:35
p.m. and 7:05 p.m. starts, respectively, on Jan. 30-31 at
BSU’s John S. Glas Fieldhouse. Friday’s Game
1 will be just BSU’s second home game in a span of
55 days.
