Bemidji State sophomore earns second major pre-season honor

Climie_MattMINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - Bemidji State sophomore goaltender Matt Climie (Leduc, Alberta) has been named Honorable Mention Pre-Season All-U.S. College Hockey Online, as announced today by that publication.

Climie’s spot on the All-USCHO Team is his second major pre-season honor in the last two weeks. On Aug. 30, he became the first sophomore in College Hockey America’s brief history to be voted CHA Pre-Season Player of the Year by the league’s coaches.

Climie used a remarkable second-half run last season to post a 1.80 goals-against average, the lowest at BSU in 40 years and the second-lowest by any goaltender in CHA history. He set a BSU single-season freshman record by posting four shutouts, and became the second goaltender in the history of the six current Division I conferences to post shutouts in both the semifinals and championship game of a conference tournament. Climie also established BSU Division I-era freshman records for victories (12) and consecutive scoreless minutes (177:41).

Climie is one of two CHA skaters to be honored on the Pre-Season All-USCHO Team. Ala.-Huntsville senior defenseman Jeremy Schreiber, who joined Climie on the Pre-Season All-CHA Team, was named to the third team.

The All-USCHO Team is voted on by members of the USCHO staff.

Bemidji State opens its 2005-06 season Friday, Oct. 7 when it opens a two-game non-conference series at Minn.-Duluth. Opening faceoff from the Duluth Entertainment and Convention Center is slated for 7:07 p.m. Central time in Duluth, Minn.
