Beavers have earned four CHA Player of the Week awards the last two weeks

BEMIDJI, Minn. - For the second consecutive week, two Bemidji State men’s ice hockey skaters have been recognized for their performance with College Hockey America Player of the Week honors. Junior forward Luke Erickson (Roseau, Minn.) has been named this week’s CHA Player of the Week and defenseman Cody Bostock (Salmon Arm, British Columbia) is CHA Rookie of the Week, the league office announced today.

Erickson led BSU with 3-1=4 points in a weekend sweep of Minnesota State, scoring his three goals on just seven shots on net. He had a goal and an assist in BSU’s 4-3 win on Friday and then put up two goals - including the eventual game-winner - in a 7-3 blowout to complete the sweep.

It marked Erickson’s first back-to-back multi-point games since putting up four in a row from Nov. 12-20, 2004, and Game 2 was Erickson’s first multi-goal game since Nov. 12, 2004 vs Bentley.

Bostock had a goal and an assist in BSU’s sweep of Minnesota State. He scored a power-play first goal and had an assist in BSU’s 5-3 win Friday night. He finished with a +1 rating for the series.

This week’s honor marks the second career CHA Player of the Week award for Erickson; Bostock earns the first CHA Rookie of the Week award of his collegiate career.

BSU swept a two-game non-conference series at Minnesota State over the weekend, capturing a 4-3 decision in Game 1 and completing the sweep with a 7-3 win on Saturday. The sweep helped BSU improve its record to 4-0-0 to open the season, the program’s best start since making the jump to NCAA Division I in 1999 and its best start overall since 1997-98.

Bemidji State is off this weekend and returns to action Friday, Oct. 28 when it opens its 2005-06 College Hockey America slate with a two-game series at Air Force. Opening faceoff between the Beavers and Falcons is slated for 7:05 p.m. Mountain time.
