BEMIDJI, Minn. - Bemidji State University men’s ice hockey defender Cody Bostock (Jr., Salmon Arm, British Columbia) and freshman forward Matt Read (Ilderton, Ontario) have been selected as College Hockey America Players of the Week for their performances in BSU’s Nov. 16-17 series at Wayne State (Mich.), league office today announced.
With two CHA weekly awards again this week, Bemidji State student-athletes have now won six of the last nine conference honors with Bostock and Read following Matt Climie (Sr., G, Leduc, Alberta) and Travis Winter (Jr., C, St. Cloud, Minn.) a week ago and Climie and sophomore forward Joey Moggach (Brandon, Manitoba) Nov. 5th.
Bostock posted two points from the blue line as Bemidji State went 1-1 in CHA play versus the Warriors. The junior netted his first collegiate game-winning goal at the 18:39 mark of the first period Friday. Saturday, Bostock again contributed to the BSU scoring posting an assist on one of BSU two power-play tallies.
The conference honor is the second of Bostock’s collegiate career. The junior was named CHA Rookie of the Week nearly two years ago to the day from this week’s award (Nov. 17, 2005).
Read led Bemidji State with 2-1=3 points in the Beavers’ most recent series at Wayne State (Mich). The rookie recorded an assist on Bostock’s first-period game-winner and picked up his first collegiate goal, an unassisted marker, during the third period of BSU’s 3-1 victory over WSU Friday. He opened also scoring in the series finale Saturday netting a power-play goal to move into a tie with Matt Pope (Sr., C, Langley, British Columbia) and Moggach for the team’s scoring lead with 2-5=7 points. The freshman also separated himself as the league’s leading rookie scorer with 2-3=5 points in CHA play.
The award marks first of Read’s young career in the Green and White.
Robert Morris University’s Chris Margott completed this week’s CHA award-wining trio garnering the Offensive Player of the Week nod.
Monday’s selections mark the sixth and seventh of the season for Bemidji State. They follow the picks of the last two weeks and an Oct. 16th Rookie of the Week award garnered by Jamie Ruff (Fr., F. Rochester, Minn.).
Bemidji State, 5-6-1 overall and 3-2-1 in CHA play, breaks from conference play this week to battle the University of Manitoba in exhibition play. The contest is set for a 7:05 p.m. opening faceoff Nov. 20th at the John Glas Fieldhouse.
