NIAGARA, N.Y. - Bemidji State University freshman defenseman Brad Hunt (Ridge Meadows, British Columbia) has been named College Hockey America Defensive Player of the Week for his role on the Beavers' blue line last weekend. League officials made the announcement today.
Hunt played a key role in the Beavers' series split at Alabama-Huntsville as he recorded a pair of assists. The rookie was credited with a helper on a Cody Bostock power-play goal Friday and found Brandon Marino with a pass that would result in a game-wining goal, 2:02 into overtime Saturday. The 2-1 victory over the Chargers was the first conference win of the season for the Beavers.
In the same release, Niagara University forward David Ross was named Offensive Player of the Week, while league named Cody Campbell of Ala.-Huntsville its Rookie of the Week.
The award marks the first of Hunt's career and the third of the season for the Beavers. Hunt follows Matt Dalton (So., G, Clinton, Ontario) as a CHA Defensive Player of the Week pick, while Shea Walters (Fr., F, Hibbing, Minn.) garnered the Rookie of the Week award Oct. 13.
BSU is coming off of a 2007-08 campaign in which it set a CHA record with 17 player of the week honorees.
