Walters selected as CHA Rookie of the Week
BSU freshman rewarded for performance in series split at Niagara

NIAGARA, N.Y. - Bemidji State University freshman forward Shea Walters (Hibbing, Minn.) has been named College Hockey America Rookie of the Week for his role in the Beavers' conference series split at Niagara University Nov. 21-22. The league officials announced the award today in a press release.

After sitting out for the series opener, Walters returned to the line up Saturday to net the game-winning goal in a 3-1 victory over The Purple Eagles. The goal was the second of the season for the rookie and marked his first collegiate game-winner. The Hibbing, Minn. native finished the weekend with five shots and a plus/minus rating of +1.

Ten games into the 2008-09 season, Walters ranks fifth among BSU forwards with 2-1=3 points while his two goals ties him with several of his teammates for second.

In addition to the BSU freshman, Robert Morris University senior forward Jason Towsley and University of Alabama-Huntsville goaltender Cameron Talbot were named Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week respectively.

The award marks the second of Walter's career and the fourth of the season for the Beavers. In addition to Walters, Matt Dalton (So., G, Clinton, Ontario) and Brad Hunt (Fr., D, Ridge Meadows British Columbia) have been named Defensive Players of the Week by the league.

BSU is coming off of a 2007-08 campaign in which it set a CHA record with 17 player of the week honorees.

The Beavers (3-7-0; 2-2-0 CHA) return home to host Michigan Tech (2-9-1; 1-8-8 WCHA) for a non-conference series after playing eight of its first 10 games on the road to begin the season. The series marks the first ever trip to the John Glas Fieldhouse for the Huskies and is slated to start at 7:35 p.m. Friday with the series finale set for a 7:05 p.m. opening face off.
