Jan. 5, 2009

NIAGARA, N.Y.
- Bemidji State University senior forward Tyler Scofield (Prince George, British Columbia) has been named College Hockey America Offensive Player of the Week for his role in the Beavers' non-conference series versus the University of North Dakota, Jan. 2-3. The announcement came today from league officials.

Scofield was a big part of the BSU offensive attack versus the 18-ranked Fighting Sioux having a hand in four of BSU's six goals. The senior helped on a Matt Read goal that got the Beavers on the board early in the first game of the home-and-home series and scored in the final moments of the first period to send BSU to the first intermission break leading 3-2. Saturday he again assisted on the Beavers' first goal of the night, just 27-seconds in, and potted a game-tying, power-play marker late in the third period that would eventually send the game to overtime.

The four-point weekend gave Scofield 86 for his career, moving him past Jeff McGill (1999-03) for eighth on BSU’s D-I era scoring list. He is also now tied with McGill for seventh on the program's D-I list with 34 career goals.

Scofield enters the off week as the team's leader in goals (8) and is second in total points (8-6=14). In addition, he owns the team's longest current scoring streak of four games (2-4=6).

Along with Scofield, the CHA recognized Niagara University goaltender Juliano Pagliero as its Defensive Player of the Week and Robert Morris University blueliner James Lyle as Rookie of the Week.

The award marks the first of the season for Scofield the sixth of 2008-09 for the Beavers. In addition to Scofield, Matt Dalton (So., G, Clinton, Ontario), Shea Walters (Fr., F, Hibbing, Minn.) and Brad Hunt (Fr., D, Ridge Meadows British Columbia) have earned the league's weekly honors.

BSU is coming off of a 2007-08 campaign in which it set a CHA record with 17 player of the week honorees.

Bemidji State (8-10-0; 4-2-0 CHA) will have its final week free from competition this week before beginning an eight-week, 16-game dash to the College Hockey America Tournament March 13-14. The Beavers begin the stretch run with a non-conference series at the University of Minnesota Duluth Jan. 16-17.
