Hunt earns College Hockey America weekly honor
Beaver freshman named conference Rookie of the Week

NIAGARA, N.Y. - Bemidji State University freshman defender Brad Hunt (Ridge Meadows, British Columbia) has been named College Hockey America Rookie of the Week for his role in the Beavers' non-conference series versus the University of Minnesota Duluth, Jan. 16-17. The announcement came today from league officials.

Hunt paced all BSU newcomers netting a goal and an assist in Saturday's non-conference series finale versus the Bulldogs. The freshman was at the center of a third period comeback attempt. Down 3-0, he potted a power-play marker in the opening minutes of the third frame and assisted on another midway through the period that reeled the Bulldogs to within a goal, 3-2, before UMD finally took the game 4-2.

With 5-9=14 points in 2008-09, Hunt is third on the team in scoring leading all BSU rookies and blueliners, while sitting tied for second on the team with nine assist.

Along with Hunt, the CHA recognized Niagara University's Ted Cook and Travis Anderson who were named as the league's Offensive and Defensive Players of the week, respectively.

The award marks the second of the season for Hunt and the seventh of 2008-09 for the Beavers. In addition to Hunt, Matt Dalton (So., G, Clinton, Ontario), Shea Walters (Fr., F, Hibbing, Minn.) and Tyler Scofield (Sr., F, Prince George, British Columbia) have earned the league's weekly honors.

BSU is coming off of a 2007-08 campaign in which it set a CHA record with 17 player of the week honorees.

The Beavers (8-12-0; 4-2-0 CHA) return to the John Glas Fieldhouse this weekend to host Niagara University (9-9-1; 3-1-1 CHA) in the Beavers’ first conference play since a Dec. 5-6 series versus University of Ala.-Huntsville. The series is set to begin Friday with a 7:35 p.m. opening face off and will conclude with a 7:05 start Saturday.
