College Hockey America tabs Hunt Defensive Player of the Week
Beaver freshman selected for league honor in second straight week

Jan. 26, 2009

NIAGARA, N.Y.
- For the second consecutive week, Bemidji State University freshman defender Brad Hunt (Ridge Meadows, British Columbia) has been selected for one of College Hockey America's weekly honors. Today league officials announced that they have named Hunt CHA Defensive Player of the Week for his role in the Beavers' series versus Niagara University.

Hunt led all Beaver defenders posting 0-2=2 points in last weekend's series versus the Purple Eagles. His assist Friday came on the power-play in the midst of a BSU comeback attempt, while he helped on the Beavers' first goal of the game Saturday. In addition to the defender's scoring output, he accounted for five blocked shots in the series.

With 5-11=16 points in 2008-09, Hunt is third on the team in scoring leading all BSU rookies and defensemen, while sitting in second place on the team with 11 assist. His six assists in eight conference games ranks second among his league counterparts and has him tied for fourth on the CHA scoring chart.

Along with Hunt, the CHA recognized Robert Morris University's Chris Kushneriuk and Trevor Morris who were named as the league's Offensive Player and Rookie of the week, respectively.

The award marks the third of the season for Hunt, his second Defensive Player of the Week honor, and the eighth of 2008-09 for the Beavers. In addition to Hunt, Matt Dalton (So., G, Clinton, Ontario), Shea Walters (Fr., F, Hibbing, Minn.) and Tyler Scofield (Sr., F, Prince George, British Columbia) have earned the league's weekly honors.

BSU is coming off of a 2007-08 campaign in which it set a CHA record with 17 player of the week honorees.

The Beavers continue CHA play this week with a trip east to Pittsburgh, Pa. to face Robert Morris University for a two-game set. The series gets underway Friday with a 6:35 p.m. opening face off and will wrap up with a 6:35 p.m. start Saturday. BSU was 2-1-1 versus the Colonials last season and is 4-4-0 all time at the RMU Island Sports Center.
