Feb. 6, 2009

FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich. -- Bemidji State University freshman defenseman Brad Hunt (Ridge Meadows, British Columbia) has been listed as a National Division I Rookie of the Month Honorable Mention selection by the Hockey Commissioners’ Association. The announcement came today from association officials.

Hunt notched 4-3=7 points in eight games during the month of January to lead all Bemidji State freshman. The rookie scored in six games, including a two-point effort (1-1=2) in a loss to University of Minnesota Duluth, and finished the month on a team-best five-game point streak. Three of Hunt’s four goals came on the power-play as he led a unit that scored on 12-of-38 (31.6-percent) opportunities in January.

The Ridge Meadows, British Columbia native currently leads all BSU blueliners and ranks third on the team with 7-11=18 points. The rookie has also been a vital cog to the Bemidji State power-play. He enters the final eight games of the regular season with a team-high 6-8=14 points on the man advantage, while his 2-4=6 in league play ties him for the top spot on the league’s power-play scoring list.

The award is the first of its kind for Hunt and the first of the season for Bemidji State.
Bemidji State returns home this weekend to host longtime foe University of Alabama-Huntsville. The CHA series will open with a 7:35 p.m. contest Friday and wrap up Saturday with a 7:05 p.m. start at the John S. Glas Fieldhouse.
