Made collegiate debut against Bentley (11/12)... Assist, first collegiate point, vs Bentley (11/13)... Played as an extra defender at Wayne State (11/23)... Assist vs Niagara (12/11); game opened career-long six-game streak of consecutive games played... Assist at North Dakota (1/28)... Played both games of Air Force series (3/4-5); first series since home tilt with Air Force (1/7-8) to appear in both games.

Prior to BSU

Played 112 games for Rögle BK in the Swedish J18, J20 and Allsvenskan leagues from 1999-04; 3-6-9 points in 22 games for Rögle BK J18 FROM 1999-02; 7-18=25 points in 77 games for Rögle BK J20 from 1999-03; 0-0=0 points in 13 games for Rögle BK Allsvenskan from 2001-04... Also scored 1-3=4 points for Jonstorps IF Divisin I in 2002-03 and played 31 games for three different teams in Finland in 2003-04... Was a member of Team Finland at the 2002 IIHF World U18 Championship in Slovakia; had one assist and two penalty minutes in seven games played, helping lead Finland to a fourth-place finish.

Personal

Niko Sakari Suoraniemi... Born March 4, 1984... Son of Kari and Auli Suoraniemi... Majoring in psychology.

Kari Suoraniemi had a stellar professional hockey career, playing in the Finnish and Swedish Elite leagues, and was a member of the Finnish National Team. Suoraniemi also played for the AHL’s Rochester Americans from 1980-83, scoring 12-58=71 points in 137 career games. He remains the 41st-leading scorer amongst defensemen in Americans history.
