SUPERIOR, WIS. -- Senior guard Adam Daley hit two consecutive three-pointers with less than 15 seconds remaining, sending the game into overtime where the Bemidji State men’s basketball defeated Wisconsin-Superior, 80-77, tonight at Clough Gates Gymnasium. The win improves BSU’s record to 4-3 while UW-S falls to 2-2 on the season.

Trailing by six after two Reed Laron free throws, BSU’s Daley connected on a trifecta with 13 seconds remaining. After one of the YellowJackets’ 23 turnovers, Daley again knocked one home, this one being his third of the game, with six seconds showing on the clock.

The overtime period provided to be a defensive struggle with the Beavers winning that battle. The Beavers held the YellowJackets to just one basket for nearly four and a half minutes to open up the extra stanza. At that point, BSU created a 76-71 lead and held on for the victory despite a three-point attempt by Laron at the buzzer.

Bemidji State, which is the worst free throw shooting team in the league at 59 percent, hit 73 percent (22-of-30) of its foul shots. Meanwhile, Wisconsin-Superior only went 53 percent (25-of-47). The YellowJackets held a slight edge in the field goal percentage category with a mark of 46 (24-of-52) percent from the floor; BSU was 40 percent (26-of-65).

Senior forward Charles Hanks posted his 10th career double-double with 14 points and game-high 10 rebounds. Hanks added five assists, three blocks and two steals; he sits second on the team this season with 3.1 assists per contest. Also, junior point guard James Roberson came up big off the bench with a personal-high 22 points on eight-of-14 shooting. Daley finished with 11 points in 17 minutes of action.

Laron led four UW-S players in double figures with 20 points and eight assists. Cody Kastern had 16 points, eight rebounds, four blocks and four steals.

The Beavers continue on their nine-game road swing with stops at North Dakota State Friday, Dec. 5 and St. Cloud State Sunday, Dec. 7. Friday’s game begins at 7:00 p.m. with the contest in St. Cloud to begin at 6:00 p.m.

NOTE: The win brings BSU’s record to 19-17 in the overall series; it has won 11 of the last 13 contests against the YellowJackets...This game marks the third straight game away from BSU Gymnasium as the Beavers will play a total of nine consecutive on the road...Charles Hanks sits with 1,115 career points, needing just 43 to move into the school’s Top 10 list; also, he has 417 career rebounds, 37 shy of the tenth spot at BSU...James Roberson’s old career-high was 16 against South Dakota State, Nov. 28, 2003...By hitting on six three-pointers, the Beavers have now gone under 10 three’s in consecutive contests, the first time since it had five against Wayne State (Neb.), Feb. 1, 2003 and nine the next time out against MSU Moorhead, Feb. 7, 2003...The 32 fouls whistled against BSU is the most since it recorded 33 vs. Wayne State (Neb.), Dec. 28, 2002...The 22 made free throws by the Beavers is the highest total since 27 were connected on vs. Winona State, March 1, 2003...The three-game BSU losing streak matched the longest in coach Jeff Guiot’s era (since 2001) - it happened two other times...The free throw trend continues as BSU has been outscored in all seven games this season from the charity stripe; overall it stands at minus-81 points (166 to 85).
