BEMIDJI, Minn. -- Shooting a season-best 58 percent from the field, including 65 percent in the second half, the Bemidji State men’s basketball team improved to 10-1 in the conference with a 96-71 win over visiting Concordia-St. Paul tonight. BSU wins its 11th straight at home versus the NSIC.

Senior Adam Daley tied a career-high with 28 points along with eight three-pointers. Senior Charles Hanks led the rebounding attack with eight, helping the Beavers hold a 36-23 rebounding edge.

The Beavers, which improve to 24-0 since 2000 when scoring 90 or more points, bettered their season total to 15-7 and maintain a one-game lead over Northern State in the league race. Concordia-St. Paul, which lost its seventh straight overall, dropped to 4-17 and 2-8 in the league.

BSU trailed but once at 11-13 but received a three-pointer and two free throws from junior Sherwin Johnson to spark a 17-5 run. The BSU long range shooting was on tonight with nine by halftime, including six treys in the span of about five minutes. Daley drilled four of those during that stretch. The hosts held a 46-37 lead at the half.

A three-pointer by C-SP’s Justin Vandenberg brought the guests to within seven at 43-50 at the 18:03 mark of the second. But, another trifecta by Daley energized the Beaver squad as shown in 10 straight points. Over a span of 6:07, the hosts limited C-SP to just four points as BSU blitzed out to a 65-47 edge.

The loud crowd and outside shooting was too much for the Golden Bears to overcome.

BSU hit on 45 percent (13-of-29) of its three’s and 71 percent (15-of-21) from the foul line. C-SP went just 41 percent overall but a sizzling 56 percent (14-of-25) from beyond the arc.

The Beavers forced 18 turnovers and held a 19-9 assists margin.

Junior James Roberson finished with 14 points and seven assists; his assists mark pushes his season total to 117, the fifth-best on the school season chart. Sophomore Kenneth Pointer recorded 14 points on seven-of-eight shooting. Johnson corralled six rebounds and netted nine points. The BSU bench scored 25 to the Golden Bears 12.

Brian Jamros, the league’s second leading scorer, tallied 30 points with eight shots from behind the arc. Justin Vandenberg added 10 points.

Facing a daunting task of playing four of its final five regular season games on the road, the Beavers visit Minnesota State, Moorhead and Northern State, Feb. 13-14. Tip-off is set for 8:00 p.m. with both broadcast live on KBSB-FM90 with Josh Harvey and Chad Waller.


NOTE: Taking the last nine meetings, BSU stands 9-1 overall against C-SP...Charles Hanks, who got his scoring streak halted at 21 games of 10 points with six tonight, was the longest for a Beaver player since Kevin Nichols posted 10-plus points in all 26 of his games in 1993-94...BSU moved to 14-3 in February under coach Jeff Guiot...Totaling 49 wins in his third season, Jeff Guiot has compiled the most victories of any BSU coach in his first three seasons; Stan Hall had 41 from 1947-50...Kenneth Pointer has hit for 10-plus points in his last three games after hitting for that amount just twice in a 12-game stretch...Holding C-SP to 23 rebounds, it is the lowest amount for a BSU opponent since Minnesota-Morris only had 22, Feb. 10, 2001...The Beaver shooting mark (.576) was their highest since it shot 59.7 percent against Winona State, Mar. 5, 2003...BSU was out-shot 13-14 from the three-point line for the first time since St. Scholastica held a 9-8 edge, Dec. 9, 2003.
