Nov. 1, 2007 - Beavers get ready for exhibition versus Northern Iowa
The Bemidji State University men's basketball team will travel to Cedar Falls, Iowa for its second exhibition contest of the 2007-08 season on Sunday, Nov. 4. The Beavers will play the University of Northern Iowa for just the fourth time in BSU men's basketball history. The Beavers are currently 0-1 in exhibition play this season. Game time is set for 3:05 p.m. from the McLeod Center on the campus of Northern Iowa.

Oct. 31, 2007 - Beavers fall in 2007-08 exhibition opener to NDSU, 80-56
The Bemidji State University men’s basketball team opened its 2007-08 exhibition season traveling to Fargo, N.D. to face NCAA Division I opponent North Dakota State University. The Bison defeated the Beavers 80-56 on Halloween night at the Bison Sports Arena.

Oct. 30, 2007 - Beavers travel to Fargo, N.D. for exhibition contest
The Bemidji State University men's basketball team will travel to Fargo, N.D., Tuesday, Oct. 31, for an exhibition contest versus the North Dakota State University Bison. This will be the first of three exhibition games for the Beavers before their season get underway on Nov. 16. Game time is slated for 7:00 p.m. from the Bison Sports Arena.

Oct. 18, 2007 - Bemidji State men picked eighth in NSIC Preseason Poll
50thLogoThe Bemidji State men’s basketball team has been picked to finish eighth in the 2007-08 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Preseason Coaches’ Poll, while junior forward Alex Smith (Miami, Fla.) was named a Preseason Player to Watch for the second consecutive season, the league office announced today.

With a touch of cold weather in the air and a recent dusting of snow on the ground it is inevitable that winter is moving in on Northern Minnesota. With the coldest months of the year creeping upon us brings with them indoor sports and the Bemidji State University men’s and women’s basketball teams are taking the signs of the cold weather as a green light to begin practice.

The Bemidji State University men’s basketball coaching staff has announced that registration materials are still being accepted for its July 30-Aug. 3 session of the 2007 Boys' Basketball Summer Camp Program. Boys in grades 1-12 are invited to participate.

The Bemidji State University men’s basketball coaching staff has announced the schedule for its 2007 Boys' Basketball Summer Camp Program. Boys in grades 1-6 are invited to attend one of two sessions while one session has been planned for boys entering grades 7-12.

Apr. 24, 2007 - DeLaSalle's Humphrey signs NLI to play at BSU
Bemidji State University head men's basketball coach Matt Bowen today announced the signing of DeLaSalle High School senior Anthony Humphrey to a National Letter of Intent. Humphrey will continue his academic and athletic careers at Bemidji State beginning in the fall of 2007.

Bemidji State University head men's basketball coach Matt Bowen today announced the addition of Patrick Cassidy who recently wrapped up his high school playing career at St. Bernard's School in St. Paul, Minn. The 6-foot-6 forward today signed a National Letter of Intent to play for the Beavers and will continue his athletic and academic careers at Bemidji State beginning in the fall of 2007.

Marshall, Minn. was the end of the line for the Bemidji State University men's basketball team as the seventh-seeded Beavers dropped their 2007 NSIC Red Baron Classic quarterfinal game to No. 2 Southwest Minnesota State University 86-43, Wednesday at the R/A Facility.

Feb. 28, 2007 - BSU opens tournament play at SW Minnesota State
The Bemidji State men’s basketball team hits the snow-covered Minnesota roads this week en route to Marshall, Minn. and the first round of the 2007 NSIC Red Baron Classic. The No. 7 Beavers finished the 2006-07 regular season 5-22 and 5-13 in NSIC play to draw the No. 2 seed Southwest Minnesota State University (18-9; 14-4 NSIC) in the quarterfinal round. The win-or-go-home meeting marks the first ever head-to-head clash between the teams in the post season.

Feb. 23, 2007 - Evans' last-second free-throw lifts BSU over UIU
After gaining a 50-49 advantage on an Alex Smith (Jr., F, Miami, Fla.) layup with 7:35 left in the game, the Bemidji State men's basketball team needed a free-throw from Arron Evans (Jr., G, Minneapolis, Minn.) with three seconds to go to secure their fifth win of 2007, 60-59 at Upper Iowa.

Feb. 17, 2007 - Marauders spoil BSU's 2006-07 home finale, 70-50
The Bemidji State men's basketball team dropped its final home game of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference regular season Saturday, 70-50, to league newcomer University of Mary. The Marauders took a 22-point lead into the break thanks to a 9-of-13 performance from beyond the three-point arc in the first half (.692). Despite outscoring the visitors during the final 20 minutes BSU would not be able to recover.

The Bemidji State University men's basketball team challenged Northern State University from wire to wire, putting itself in a position to knock of the Wolves in the the game's final moments, but fell short, 61-57, in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference play Friday at the BSU Gymnasium.

The Bemidji State University men's basketball team outlasted the University of Minnesota, Crookston Saturday to claim a hard-fought Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference win, 67-63, at the BSU Gymnasium. Dan Sowu posted a team-high 14 points to help power the Beavers to victory.

The Bemidji State University men's basketball team fought Concordia University-St. Paul from wire to wire, but the Golden Bears proved to be too much for the Beavers Saturday, handing the team a 75-68 loss in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference play at the Gangelhoff Center.

Bemidji State University freshman Seth Haake (G, Eden Prairie, Minn.) posted 17 points Friday, but it would not be enough as Minnesota State University Moorhead used a 51-percent second-half shooting effort to blow past the Beavers en route to a 70-56 NSIC victory at Alex Nemzek Hall in Moorhead, Minn.

Jan. 27, 2007 - Ramos and Evans propel BSU to third win of 2006-07
Juniors Arron Evans (G, Minneapolis, Minn.) and Marques Ramos (G/F, Henderson, Nev.) posted matching 12-point games and Ramos collected a career-high 10 rebounds to power the Bemidji State men's basketball team to its third victory of the 2006-07 campaign, 66-59, over Wayne State College Saturday at the BSU Gymnasium. The Beavers trailed for only 17 seconds in the contest using a strong defensive effort to propel them to an NSIC victory.

The Bemidji State University men’s basketball team looks to put together multiple wins for the first time this season this weekend when it welcomes Southwest Minnesota State University and Wayne State College to the BSU Gymnasium. The Mustangs come to town Friday tied for second in the NSIC standings at 7-2 (13-4 overall) and Wayne State travels to the BSU Gym Saturday toting a 5-4 record in the league (10-8 overall) for fifth place. Jan. 6, 2007 - BSU sneaks past UMC, 64-62, for first win of 2006-07

The Bemidji State University men's basketball team could not have written a better script as it took the court for its first action of the new calendar year. After 13 consecutive losses to begin the season, the Beavers used a layup in the game's final seconds to escape from the the University of Minnesota, Crookston's Lysaker Gymnasium Saturday with a 64-62 win.

50thLogoIn a game that saw the score tied on 11 occasions and the lead change hands 12 times, the University of Wisconsin-Superior handed the Bemidji State men’s basketball team a 75-69 loss in the Beavers’ last contest of the 2006 calendar year, Friday at the BSU Gymnasium. Brandon Fields (Fr., PG, Los Angeles) netted a team-best 12 points and five assists while he pulled down four rebounds in his first collegiate action.

Nov. 15, 2006 - Minnesota Duluth spoils BSU's season opener, 90-59
The Bemidji State University men's basketball team broke the seal on its 85th season of competitive play Wednesday evening with a 90-59 loss to long-time rival University of Minnesota Duluth at Romano Gymnasium in Duluth, Minn. Jordan Nuness got the Bulldogs on the the board just 13-seconds into the game on the first of his six three-pointers on the night as UMD used a 30-57 (.520) shooting effort and 44-25 rebounding edge to claim the 31-point victory.

Nov. 15, 2006 - BSU opens 2006-07 campaign with 7,000-mile road trip
The Beavers and first-year head coach Matt Bowen step out from behind the curtain and onto the 2006-07 stage this week bursting on to the scene with an impressive opening act. The Beavers’ Nov. 15 tilt at University of Minnesota Duluth kicks off a four-day, three-game road trip that will allow the team to rack up plenty of frequent flyer miles. BSU embarks on the 7,000 mile, 144-hour excursion with the 7 p.m. contest at UMD. The team will then drive to Minneapolis, Minn. to catch a flight to Anchorage, Alaska for a two-game set at University of Alaska Anchorage.

Nov. 3, 2006 - Beavers drop 2006-07 exhibition opener to Minnesota
In the eight months since the Bemidji State University men’s basketball team last took the floor a lot has changed. First-year head coach Matt Bowen took over the reigns of the program and was faced with the challenge of completely reloading the line up and coaching staff. Friday evening the new-look Beavers took to the raised floor of Williams Arena to battle the University of Minnesota in exhibition play. The Golden Gophers defeated BSU 88-32.

With the crisp hints of frigid weather in the air and a recent dusting of snow on the ground it is inevitable that winter is moving in on Northern Minnesota. But the coldest months of the year also bring with them indoor sports and the Bemidji State University men's and women's basketball teams are taking the signs of winter as a green light to begin training for their upcoming seasons. Sunday, both teams will open the doors of the BSU Gymnasium for their first organized team practices in preparation for the 2006-07 season.

Bowen becomes the 19th head coach in the 84-year history of the program. Bowen comes to BSU after 14 year of assistant coaching experience at the NCAA Division I level.

Bemidji State University Director of Athletics Dr. Rick Goeb has announced that the department will host a pair open houses this week providing the general public an opportunity to meet the candidates for the university’s head men’s basketball coaching position. June 20, 2006 - BSU announces Men's basketball coaching finalists
Bemidji State University Director of Athletics Dr. Rick Goeb today announced that Matthew Bowen and Jerry Olson have been named as finalists for the BSU head men’s basketball coaching position. Bowen is currently an assistant coach at Valparaiso University in Valparaiso, Ind. while Olson stands as the head women’s basketball coach and athletic director at Oklahoma Panhandle State University in Goodwell, Okla. The finalists will be on campus during the week of June 26-30 for interviews.
