BEMIDJI, Minn. - The
Bemidji State University women’s soccer team is off
to its best start in the seven-year history of the program.
The team split this weekend on it’s road trip to the
Dakotas going 1-1 to bring its overall record to 2-1.
On Saturday, the Beavers were up against Jamestown College.
The Beavers struck first when in the 34th minute Jill Hodorff
(Fr. Inver Grove Hieghts, Minn.) scored off the pass from
Amanda Miller (Orono, Minn.). It was Hodorff’s first
collegiate goal and it was enough to give BSU the lead until
the 59th when Jamestown’s Brandi Geider got one past
the Beaver goalkeeper, Niki Dalka, to tie the game 1-1. The
score would remain that way until the end of regulation.
In overtime, Geider would again find the net at the 5:09
mark to win the game for the Jimmies 2-1.
On Sunday, the Beavers traveled to Aberdeen S.D. to take
on the Saints of Presentation College. The Beavers came out
strong out-shooting the Saints 29-11 and scoring first. Laura
Keller (So. Grand Rapids, Minn.) got BSU on the board when
she scored her first goal of the year off the assist from
Lindsey Natwick (2) to go up on Presentation 1-0. That was
all the Beavers would need as Niki Dalka would record her
first shutout of the year, making nine saves.
The Beavers added another goal late in the game when Natwick
scored on the pass from Amy Vleck (3) (Bemidji, Minn.) and
Hodorff (2) to bring the final score to 2-0. It was Natwick’s
first career goal adding to her team-leading 4 points.
Under coach Jim Stone, the Beavers are 2-1. They will take
this week off but will be back in action Sept. 25 when they
travel to the University of Mary. The game will mark the second
time the teams have met. BSU is 0-2 against the Marauders
