BEMIDJI, Minn. - The scoring flurry started early and occurred
often for Bemidji State this afternoon at the BSU Field as
freshman Lindsey Natwick (Bismarck, N.D.)
knocked home two of her six goals in the first two minutes
of the game to lead BSU to a 10-0 victory over Division III-member,
the University of Wisconsin-Superior. Natwick also earned
two assists on both of senior Amy Vleck’s
(Bemidji, Minn.) goals for the contest. Natwick’s goal
and point (14) total puts her in the BSU annals for the most
in a single-game.
“Lindsey showed how good she is going to be in the next
four years with her performance today,” said head coach
Jim Stone.
After Natwick’s five first-half goals, sophomore Amanda
Miller (Orono, Minn.) sent one home preceding Natwick’s
sixth tally in the 56th-minute. Both assists went to freshman
Cristina Egnell (Park Center, Minn.). Sophomore
Stacy Swanson (Hermantown, Minn.) capped
the scoring in the 75th-minute with her first career goal
after Vleck’s two scores. Adding assists to the BSU
cause was freshman Heather Prout (Duluth,
Minn.) and Miller with two apiece, freshman Jill Hodorff
(Inver Grove Heights, Minn.), senior Kelly Lessman
(Bemidji, Minn.), freshman Maria Balsimo
(Little Canada) and Vleck each chipped in one.
BSU junior goaltender Niki Dalka (Rhinelander,
Wis.) earned her second shutout on the season by making three
saves in the contest. Overall, BSU held UW-Superior to just
seven shots the entire match.
“This was a good game for us to work on some tactical
stuff on the defensive side of the ball and give confidence
to our attack,” said head coach Jim Stone
when asked about the other benefit in addition to the victory.
As a team, BSU broke a few single-game records with goals,
points (32), assists (12) on the afternoon. In addition, this
was the first BSU shutout at home since it blanked Concordia-St.
Paul on Oct. 27, 2001.
Conference action will be next for the Beavers as they travel
to MSU Moorhead and Minnesota-Crookston on Saturday and Sunday.
The scheduled start time vs. the Dragons is 11:30 a.m. while
BSU is set to begin at 1:00 p.m. against UM-Crookston.
