Northern State Blanks Bemidji State, 3-0

BEMIDJI, Minn. - The Bemidji State University soccer team was shut out today by the Northern State University Wolves, 3-0.

The Beavers played the first half well being out shot 18-2, but holding the Wolves off to head to the locker rooms knotted in a 0-0 tie at halftime.

Northern State came out in the second half and got on the board in the 51st minute, when Kersten Coulter would find the net on a crossing pass from Emily Clark to take the 1-0 lead. The Wolves would hold on to the lead for the rest of the game adding two more goals. One in the 72nd minute by Laura Finnvik and they would add another with less than two minutes to go in the game when Coulter would beat the Beaver goaltender, Niki Dalka, again for her second goal of the day.

The Beavers best scoring opportunity came late in the first half when freshman midfielder Emily Curcuruto got free and took a shot that floated just over the crossbar. The shot would have given BSU a 1-0 going into halftime.

Niki Dalka made 13 saves in the game for the Beavers.

Bemidji State will take to the BSU Field for the last time of the 2002 season tomorrow (Oct. 20) when it takes on the University of Minnesota-Morris at 12:00 p.m. The Cougars are 9-4-1 overall and 4-1-1 in the NSIC coming into the weekend. UM-Morris is in Duluth today to face the Bulldogs.
