BEMIDJI, Minn. - The Bemidji State University soccer team
was shut out for the fifth-straight time toady as University
of Minnesota-Morris used a four-goal first half to burry the
Beavers in a hole they would not be able to dig themselves
out of.
The Cougars offensive attack was led by Erin Mahoney who had
two goals on the day. Her first, just 3:26 into the game,
would give UMM the early lead and would prove to be the eventual
game-winner as Morris would never trail on its way to a 5-0
shutout of Bemidji State.
Minnesota-Morris would add to its 1-0 lead when Mandy Schoen
would loft a cross out in front of the goal and a BSU defender
would head the ball past Dalka to give UMM a 2-0 lead. Schoen
would add a goal and an assist before the half and would make
the pass for an assist on Mahoney’s second goal.
The Beavers would have a few good scoring opportunities in
the second half but would not be able find the net. In a five
minute span starting in the 69th minute, BSU had three shots
on goal. Lindsey Natwick broke free from
the pack and took the Cougar goaltender on one-on-one only
to be stopped by the goalie. Amy Vleck would
have a shot bounce off the top of the crossbar on a free kick
and Natwick had another opportunity.
Niki Dalka had 11 saves in the game for the
Beavers.
The Beavers will be back on the road this weekend when they
travel to southern Minnesota for a pair of NSIC matches. Saturday
(Oct. 26) BSU will be in St. Paul, Minn. to take on Concordia-St.
Paul in a 1:00 p.m. start and will head to Winona, Minn. Sunday
for a 12:00 p.m. match with Winona State.
