MARQUETTE, Mich. - The Bemidji State soccer team was defeated
5-1 by Northern Michigan Sunday afternoon in the Holiday/Ramada
Inn Tournament in Marquette, Mich.
Northern Michigan received goals from Carolyn Kunas in the
39th minute and Betsy Hubert in the 42nd minute to give it
a 2-0 lead at the half. The Wildcats picked up two more goals
in the second half to build a 4-0 lead.
Freshman Katie Meinhardt put the Beavers on the board with
her third goal of the season on a penalty kick in the 55th
minute to cut Northern Michigan’s lead to 4-1, but the
‘Cats added another late goal to give Northern Michigan
the 5-1 victory.
Head coach Jim Stone took a positive approach to his team’s
performance.
“This is a disappointing loss, but it was the first
game we haven’t been in this season,” Stone said,
“The girls are working hard and with more experience
improvements will come.”
The Beavers are now 1-5-1 on the season.The Beavers have now
lost all three meetings against Northern Michigan.
BSU faces North Dakota and Minnesota-Duluth on Friday, Sept.
19, and Saturday, Sept. 20. North Dakota will be in Bemidji
for the Beavers’ home opener at 4:00 p.m. on Friday
at the BSU Soccer Field. On Saturday, BSU will travel to Duluth
to challenge the Bulldogs at 1:00 p.m.
