Bemidji State Defeats Jamestown 3-1
Oct. 18, 2003

JAMESTOWN, ND. - The Bemidji State soccer team scored three unanswered goals to beat Jamestown College this afternoon in Jamestown, North Dakota. The Beavers earned their fourth victory of the season, tying the school record set during the 2002-03 season.

Jamestown jumped to an early 1-0 lead in the match as Kathleen Wesseman beat goalkeeper Kari Torgerson in the 10th minute.

After making several position adjustments at halftime BSU tied the contest in the 48th minute when sophomore Erin Foss tallied her first collegiate goal off an assist from freshman Whitney Sengthao. Foss scored her goal after moving from defense to a midfielder position.

Whitney Sengthao then notched her first career goal and second point of the match in the 79th minute to put the Beavers in front 2-1. Freshman Ashley Lehmeier was credited with her first assist on the goal.

BSU put the finishing touches on the contest just two minutes later as freshman Traci Ringgenberg scored her third goal in three matches to lengthen the Beavers lead to 3-1. Ringgenberg is believed to be the first BSU player in program history to score a goal in three consecutive matches.

Head coach Jim Stone was pleased with his team’s ability to comeback after falling behind 1-0.

“We have been playing well and to score three goals and win the match after trailing early on means a lot to this program,” Stone said.

Stone also praised the two-point performance from Whitney Sengthao.

“Whitney has been working hard all year and she is showing us why she was an all-state player in high school last year,” Stone said.

The Beavers are now 4-10-1 on the season and 1-4-0 in NSIC play. BSU will take on the University of Mary Sunday afternoon at 1:00 p.m. in Bismarck, North Dakota.
