Southwest Minnesota State Tops BSU 4-1

MARSHALL, MINN - Southwest Minnesota State posted a 4-1 victory over the Bemidji State soccer team this afternoon in Marshall, Minn.. The Beavers are now winless in their last eight contests with the Mustangs.

Southwest Minnesota State jumped out to an early 2-0 lead behind goals from Cassie Raushel and Liz Schiesl in the 9th minute and 25th minute of the first half.

BSU sophomore forward Lindsey Natwick earned her team-leading fourth marker in the 31st minute, cutting the Mustangs lead to 2-1. Sophomore defender Erin Foss tallied her first helper of the 2003 campaign on Natwick’s goal.

Noelle Bergman lengthened Southwest Minnesota State’s lead to 3-1 in the 37th minute, giving the home team a two-goal halftime advantage.

The Mustangs added one more score in the 51st minute to solidify a 4-1 win.
Freshmen goalkeepers Kari Torgerson and Jacque Wagner combined to make nine saves for the Beavers.

Despite the disappointing loss head coach Jim Stone believes his team still has a lot to play for.

“Hopefully we can forget today’s loss and play well tomorrow, Stone said, “If we win we are in the NSIC tournament for the first time in school history.”

The Beavers now own a 5-12-1 overall record and a 2-5 mark in NSIC play. BSU closes off the regular season Saturday afternoon against Wayne State at 1 p.m..

Notes: Assistant coach Oliver Twelvetrees served as the head coach in today’s contest as Jim Stone is beside his wife Heather who just had their second child Miah, on October, 27.
