| Four Bemidji State Soccer Players
Earn NSIC Honors |
Nov. 4, 2003
MINNEAPOLIS, MINN. - Four Bemidji State University soccer players
have been named to the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference
2003 All-Conference First Team, announced by the league office
today. This year’s squad marks the first team in the history
of the program to have four players represented on the All-Conference
Team.
Freshman goalkeeper Kari Torgerson (New Hope,
Minn.), sophomore defender Cristina Egnell
(Brooklyn Center, Minn.), sophomore forward Lindsay
Natwick (Bismarck, ND) and freshman forward Katie
Meinhardt (Maple Grove, Minn.) were the four athletes
selected by the NSIC coaches to represent BSU on the All-Conference
Team.
Torgerson, Egnell, and Meinhardt are making their first appearances
on the team, while Natwick has earned the honor for the second
consecutive season. Natwick, BSU’s point leader (4-4-12),
is the second player in school history to garner NSIC accolades
in back-to-back seasons. Becky Elk was a member of the All-Conference
Team in 1999 and 2000.
Torgerson played strong in goal throughout the season, and she
owns several single season records for the Beavers, including
goals against average (1.74), goals allowed (31), minutes (1605:12),
and save percentage (.850).
The team’s second leading scorer, Meinhardt finished the
2003 campaign with four goals and one assist, good for nine
points. Meinhardt was named NSIC Offensive Player of the Week
for Sept. 8-15 after scoring a pair of goals at the University
of Minnesota-Morris Cougar Classic.
A mainstay in the BSU lineup for the last two seasons, Cristina
Egnell has played in all 35 games of her career at Bemidji State.
Egnell helped lead a defensive unit that held its opponents
to 31 goals on the season, the fewest markers allowed in BSU
history.
The Beavers finished with a 5-13-1 record and 2-6-0 mark in
NSIC play. |
