Aug. 25 , 2005

Grand Forks, N.D. -- The Bemidji State University soccer team scorched Mayville State in the opening game of the 2005 season. The Beavers pieced together three goals in each half to dispatch the NAIA's Comets, 6-0.

Six different players scored goals for the Beavers. The scoring onslaught was started in the 38th minute by junior defender Tegan Moehn (Ramsey, Minn), and continued less than two minutes later by sophomore defender Erica Thompson's (Colorado Springs, Colo.) first career goal. BSU added one more first half goal off the foot of junior midfielder Mary Stoltz (St. Paul, Minn.).

The second half continued the same story for the Beavers, as they tacked on three more goals. Two BSU true freshman, Lauren Olivares (El Paso, Tex.) and Kelly Hyvare (Coon Rapids, Minn.), notched the first goal of their short careers. Sophomore midfielder Megan Wallner (Bemidji, Minn.) rounded out the scoring for the Beavers.

Bemidji State is in action next on August 26, 2005 at 1:00 p.m. in Jamestown, N.D. as they take on the Jamestown College Jimmies. BSU is 2-5 all-time against Jamestown with the last victory coming October 18, 2003 in a 3-1 victory. The Jimmies downed the Beavers last year, 2-1.
