Torgerson named NSIC Defensive Player of the Week

Sept. 6 , 2005

St. Paul, Minn. -- After holding St. Scholastica scoreless for 110 minutes in a 0-0 tie last week, junior goalkeeper Kari Torgerson (New Hope, Minn.) has been selected as the league's Defensive Player of the Week, conference officials today announced.

Torgerson collected all 14 shots on goal to gain her first solo shutout of the 2005 season. The shutout also commanded an extra effort as the game went into double overtime.

The two-time all-NSIC performer also had a hand in a 6-0 shutout win over Mayville State, where she split halves with teammate Jessica Meath.

Torgerson's shutout over St. Scholastica also marked the BSU record 12th of her three-year career. She also holds BSU's single-season shutout record blanking seven opponents last season.

The Beavers will be in action next in their conference-opener at Concordia St. Paul on Saturday, September 10, 2005 at 1:00 p.m.
