ST. PAUL, Minn. -- Bemidji State University’s junior defender Tegan Moehn (Ramsey, Minn.) was named Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Defensive Player of the Week for her efforts in BSU’s back-to-back shutouts of NSIC opponents Minnesota State-Moorhead and Northern State, conference officials announced today.
Moehn playing the center back position in BSU’s defense helped hold two straight NSIC foes scoreless, while contributing on the offensive end of the field as well. She scored the first goal of the game against MSU-Moorhead on Saturday, which proved to be the game-winner. Moehn also notched an assist in the Beaver’s victory over Northern State Sunday.
The shutout versus Minnesota State-Moorhead was the first all-time in 12 meetings of the two teams. The Beavers had shutout Northern State once in the previous 11 meetings, which was also the last time the Beavers beat NSU on October 4, 2003.
The award was the second Player of the Week selection for BSU this season. Goalkeeper Kari Torgerson (Jr.; New Hope, Minn.)was named Defensive Player of the Week on September 6, 2005 for her 110-minute shutout of St. Scholastica.
The NSIC Offensive Player of the Week award was given to Concordia-St. Paul’s Hillary Johnson.
The award marks the first time Moehn has been recognized for her performance by the NSIC.
The Beavers are back in action this weekend as they host NSIC opponents Southwest Minnesota State and Wayne State (Neb.). The match are set for 1:00 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
